I did notice, ff, sometime after posting that there was a more proper place for my question (though I have now forgotten just where it was).

If I may, though, I'd like to say how delighted I am to be here. I'm finding new pleasure in music in being able to express my feelings on it. Reading others posts, I have been directed to new music which is already becoming important to me. The atmosphere is very congenial and if there is moderation, it must be done lightly because I don't see its traces. Though I'm a very recent arrival here, in the last few weeks for3 has added something significant to my happiness in life. :)

If they are via a link which you can choose to click on, or not, then that's OK.
Just looking hrough this thread again to see if there were any suggestions to pick up on.

Anna, you know you can turn images (and signatures and avatars) off if you want to? It's on your General Setting page. Turning off converts the image into a weblink.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Can you sort out this new way that every time you type a line or so, you get moved around? You spend your time trying to get ther cursor back to where you left off! Plus, the box available for typing in is now so small. I don't know what you've done since I went away, but IMHO this is not an improvement.

        Also, I can't edit. Well, I can - but I can't save the edits!

        Thanks, S-S!

What OS and browser are you using?

You can pull it down to make it as big as your screen will take. Are you working with a small screen? I remember you saying that you lost some of the text on the homepage (this happens when people give very long titles to their threads or have longer than usual usernames: you can maximise the window or make the text smaller)
          Also, I can't edit. Well, I can - but I can't save the edits!
That isn't a fault that anyone else has reported. I've just logged in to 'Lars Porsenna' on my PC and edited the first post made - so there's no time limit on editing.

Do you mean you write in your edit and there's no Save button?

I'm still getting some of this though less than formerly, don't know why. Randomly, the end of the line is duplicated but I can't move the cursor to the start of the duplicate to delete that. I have to start deleting the line and both versions are deleted, then the process stops and I can continue.

            It looks like this.
then the process stops and I can then the process stops and I can
But, I can't move the cursor to the point between the duplicates, I have to start deleting both and then this duplicating function will switch off.

It doesn't matter much because it's happening less now but I wonder if what Simon's describing is the same or similar thing.

            I'm on Windows 7/IE.

If that's what was being described, the remedy(?) is to ignore the duplication - you can't delete it because it's a 'ghost'. Pretend it isn't there and post as usual. I don't recall having read any of these duplicate phrases in other people's messages, using the Firefox browser.

I believe every report of this has been from people using IE.

                Message understood. Thanks, ff.

Re browsers, perhaps it's time for a change ...

PLEASE can you consider moving Platform 3 to the top of the topics list? It is by far the most used forum area, yet we have to scroll to the bottom of the page every time to access it. Thanks for consideration

<Gulp> Well, my initial reaction is, No - because although it is unquestionably the most popular board, it is also the one which has least relevance to the forum as a whole. I'd prefer to discourage its use and encourage use of the others. That's why it was placed at the bottom of Classical Forume

How sad that just when "Most users ever online was 301, Yesterday at 00:11.", our glorious leader sees fit to pour scorn on the Forum's most popular aspect

Yes, but what are the browsing guests reading?

It just means that the Platform 3 posters are the most garrulous!

What measures of quality do you employ, ff? ;laugh:

I would have thought it was obvious - there is NO quality control here

As for 'Most users ever online', I don't know what prompts these surges. Most people online at any time will not be members, not even logged out members. There are search engines and robots of various kinds trying to log in, post messages, look at members profiles &c. The latest surge at 00.11 didn't occur at a popular time for posters so I don't think we should take any personal credit for the quality of the forum - it's just that we are relatively active and we get a lot of hits when people aren't looking for us specifically.

My only grumble about the forum site is the oft mentioned one of colour. I find the Radio 3 red tiring on the eyes and long for some restful green. Quality? well, that is up to us.

A few people have mentioned the colour and I've been toying with some modification - to use the actual BBC red plus a more cinnamon colour (the colour of the Auto-Save pop-up) instead of pink.

                                They look like this:

                                Any thoughts?
