How about a Radio Times cover devoted to Radio3?

I have emailed a screen shot of this to R3 to check they have this in hand :-D
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Alan Davey replies 'Working on it. Any suggestions gratefully received.'

So there you are: something for September?

My recommendation would be a design by Peter Blake

My suggestion was going to be that 'they' commissioned a new design, based on any of the original BBC artwork. Don't know if the Third festured on any early covers, but there are various b&w things - as Stanley Stewart mentioned.

I have to admit that my idea was based on Blake's collage of celebs on the "Sergeant Pepper" cover - most of those faces being the sorts of "iconic figures" that would have *once* been regularly featured subjects for discussion programmes on Radio 3.

He's pretty elderly now, but interestingly:

Wiki 'In 2014, he exhibited his illustrations inspired by Under Milk Wood at National Museum Cardiff.' Reuse, recycle principle?

I've started a new thread as it would be good to hear any other comments

Radio Times covers feature people - generally not more than one or two - who feature in some significant way in the week's broadcasting. Rival TV listings magazines are displayed next to eachother on the newsstands in the supermarket - the covers have to sell the magazines. So, it would be this week's Corrie sensation, or the star of the latest Scandi noir, up against, say, Rob Cowan and this week's guest on EC. A Peter Blake collage of the presenters......no, stop there.

There's an annual RT cover party, at which people who have featured on covers during the year are snapped next to eachother, often in unlikely groups, holding replicas of their covers.....

Stop press - Lucie Skeaping - yes it could work.....

Well, the mock-up I did with Andrew on the cover (think I've deleted it now but I suppose it's in Photobucket) had David Tennant but with an interesting background - Tardis &c. So the Blake (?) illustration could be that background with a week's guest who might 'sell' the magazine. So what you'd have to do is think of a well-known guest with that kind of public appeal. David Tennant in the week's Drama on 3? ? Or …

There are also those "special" "Collectors' Edition" multi-cover editions when different people feature on different editions of the same week's magazine. So all the R3 presenters could be included, and we can buy the one from the shops with our "favourite" on the cover.

Alternatively, for those of us with dartboards ...

But surely this would be pandering to their current need - the need for the presenters to be viewed as "celebrities".

Well, yes - but that's the function of the RT cover: show the faces of "personalities". If there is to be a R3 RT cover under the present editorship, it will have to be mugshots - much as a portrait of Schoenberg or a facsimile of the manuscript of a Tenth Century second-mode Tract would be indescribably preferable!

Yes, forget th possibility of putting R3 presenters on the cover - they wouldn't sell the magazine. I only mentioned Andrew off-the cuff as someone had once suggested he should have an RT cover.

Back to the idea of a quintessentially Third/R3 celebrity who straddles the serious arts and is very well-known (hence David Tennant - or any recent Who). N Benedetti, perhaps. Or Lang Lang But I reckon an actor would be the best bet. In a new play by Stoppard - although he'd have to get a move on if it was to be written, cast, rehearsed and performed by September

                              Definitely not, not, not presenters.
