The Talking About Music board

FF: I've read your original post again and am somewhat confused as to what you envisage. If you mean bringing all music matters within a 'Talking about Music' forum with all other matters into a sort of 'Platform 3' forum then I can sort of see the point. However, I have no trouble finding what I want so my own particular view, as above, remains unchanged.

The proposal was to move Talking About Music out of the Classical Forum 'category' and place it above in the BBC Messageboards 'category'. It would be a general forum to talk about music of all kinds. In effect that's what it is now, so it's irrational to be talking about Rock-pop-jazz-fusion-Adele-Songs-u-Love in Classical Forum.

Jazz would still be in the Jazz category, world music would still be in the World category and classical would be in Classical Forum. If an 'off-topic'/general thread was started in a special category, it would be moved to Talking About Music.

I understand that that is quite unnecessary and people like it how it is. So, for the third time, the matter is dropped.

PS It had nothing at all to do with Platform 3.

So you didn't think my suggestion for moving it into P3 - not my preference - had any merit at all? It is slightly disappointing that a constructive and thought through idea was utterly dismissed. I'm not sure I understand the BBC Boards idea when they closed five years ago. But I accept the tone, not least because I don't have access to the dynamics. I could have been thanked for considering options for a compromise if compromise was felt necessary. But that's the general tone of 2015, isn't it? Sorry to have put in the effort.

My suggestion was also a thought through and constructive suggestion but members queued up to say no, they wanted it to stay as it is, it was unnecessary, they didn't really understand why it was being mooted . So in Msgs 6, 12 and 16 I said it was being dropped - in deference to the views of such members who had posted, including, as I understood it, yourself. I thought even you were saying that what you were suggesting wasn't your preference …

However, I was remiss in not thanking all members who have posted to this thread for giving me the benefit of their opinions. Thank you.

Yes - many thanks frenchfrank, for which I am grateful, although I'm personally very uneasy about the word deference while kindly meant.

I just felt that if it was to be moved there was a question about how and where. I offered a suggestion. But it seems to have run its course.

The very title itself, seems to me rather a general name, so this would seem that any genre about music should be put in, or sub-categorised, or would that be rather complicated, to be a kind of multi-faceted section to this forum?

Sometimes I have this fantasy that we're all acting in a play, and there's an audience out there in the dark watching us, understanding everything that's going on while we are all getting the wrong end of the stick, getting wires crossed, misunderstanding. Trying, failing. And the audience is falling about laughing at the farce.

But maybe we're just a metaphor for life.
