It seems that the BBC have forgotten their mandate to educate and inform. Now all they do is try to entertain, by competing with more popular stations such as Classic FM.
The new 2pm slot is not a major problem because it is possible to listen to the programme whenever you want. What I object to is that the have shortened the programme yet again, this time by 45 minutes. I can remember when Record review lasted for more than 3 hours and I tuned in every Saturday morning without fail.

My favourite R3 programme that I've listened to most Saturday mornings since I was a kid (40+ years). It framed the weekend. I won't listen anymore. I want to swear at the BBC management!!!

Periodically 'They're Sorry They Haven't A Clue' on Radio 4 either!

I'm not interested in much Tom Service has to say. France Musique is an example of how to run a classical radio station: great programming and no talk.

That’s very depressing. Presumably it is all to do with justification of the license fee in the face of massive political/idealogical bombardment. The government don’t want to get rid of culture, but they do want to get rid of any state funding for it. ‘Inform and educate’ - that’s going the way of clean river water and affordable rail travel - down the pipe.

It may be a loss for this forum though - if I were paranoid ... Much harder to comment on the programme here if some people aren't going to listen to it until next week. We'll see at 2pm what happens. All the pre-programme comment won't be a problem.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Unless they don't tell us what the work is until the day!
20 April episode still not giving any details.

One might think they're quietly trying to kill the whole programme off.

... but we now know that it will be Monteverdi's Vespers on the 27th!

One of the many problems presented by the modern world.

On the puppy-like eagerness of Radio 3 presenters (from today’s Times obituary of the great Wagner critic, Michael Tanner):
”Need we have to endure the matiness and simulated breathless enthusiasm that is nor de rigueur for concert and opera announcers?”
                          Yes, it seems.

Actually I enjoyed some of Tom Service's broacasts - those where he analysed a particular piece of music. The problem was that they were broadcast late on a Sunday afternoon so I often missed them.

It’s surprising how few forumites seem to be listening live these days even at 10.30 - at least if the live comments are anything to go by. I’m nearly always listening and there are many fewer live responses than a year ago. Though some works attract more than others . The Brahms 3 strand is one where there are likely to be way more pre programme review comments than post. Perhaps because most of us appear to have half a dozen recordings already,

That doesn't usually prevent people from commenting on the reviewer's comments!

Sadly, I imagine not a few listeners will have been tuning in this morning to hear Record Review. Not everyone reads the latest media news.
