    Illogical, Captain.

Chill out with Zupko, is my advice.

Neither did/do I. When I saw ff's announcement the only politics thread I was aware of was the general election results one, & I assumed that was the one that had caused offence. The other threads must have started, & been moved, while my attention was on something better.

As it is I don't think bl**dy is particularly offensive, unless the board is populated mainly by the proverbial maiden aunts. You should just try travelling on a Glasgow bus!

But the point is that ff's message didn't indicate which thread was the problematic one.

It does nothing of the sort - it simply demonstrates that several people hadn't the faintest idea what ff was on about. I thought Richard's post was a perfectly reasonable request for information, only to be met with a rather offensive response from you. If the board is run by one person who can make decisions about it without reference to anyone else then I think it's not unreasonable for them to explain why that decision was made. Are we inhabiting a dictatorship?

I was trying to reply to the thred in question at the very point at which it was taken down. I was therefore able to deduce which thread was the source of the problem. The OP did indeed breach the house rules in the way it deployed the term "cretin". That said, it does appear to me to have been something of an overreaction to consign the topic to the dungeon.

Indeed. Anyway I've written a PM to her asking that my account be shut down and explaining there's nothing personal about this, just mostly that I'm in the process of "tidying up" my internet activities for various reasons. If anyone feels like keeping in touch I'm not that hard to find!

I find the suggestion that women, especially if unmarried, are especially prudish deeply offensive.

I have had a very friendly, completely reasonable PM from Richard with an explanation of his views. I think those points are settled.

Perhaps I didn't make it clear (sorry!) that the P&CA forum was only reopened because I thought people would wish to discuss the election result - and as far as that went, I felt it was worthwhile.

But it was clear that we had now moved away from the election and new topics were being added - one of which caused a complaint with which I agreed. In my view discussion of politics is not furthered by angry outbursts of that kind, bad language, sarcasm and jeering. So that forum is now closed [recte In the Basement. But it will be closed and politics is once more banned. People must find the kind of forum that suits their style of discussion.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                        Richard

I can see what the problem is/was. There was certainly a potential for trouble, and I can understand why the decision to hide that part of the site has been taken.

I do hope you don't leave, as in any case I don't think you had anything to do with it.

If you need clues so as to check that the post in question could have offended someone .... maybe PM me and I can give you the link to the basement.

                        PS
Looks as though the basement is now closed anyway, see msg 25. This is a shame, but there it is ....

Accepted that there are other means of finding you, your responses to discussions unique to this Forum have been thought-provoking and (to use vocabulary you might not approve of) inspirational.

On the other hand - if the "various reasons" include devoting more time to composing, then p*ss off!

I did say 'proverbial'; I don't think for a minute that unmarried women are any more prudish than married women or men whatever their marital state. I hope that various postrs from me would have shown that.

I suppose I could have said Victorian curates.
