There's this problem of the figure of PMs to be read not deleting or reducing once one has read said messages. On the old system, once you raised the PM the figure disappeared (or reduced by one).
The only reason I'm raising this is that it is slightly annoying that after reading (and even after ticking the "read" box btw) the figure is still there, unchanged, in the <bell> Messages box.

But does ihat figure remain there permanently or does it eventually go - possibly based on something else that you've done? I have found that sometimes the figure remains longer than I expected, but it goes quite soon.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I've found that it disappears or changes if you click on 'Notifications' again.

Or perhaps refresh the page?

Neither works. Oh well, I'll just keep an eye on it. Maybe if I logged off and back on again, which I never ever do, that might work.
At last!
For anyone else wishing or needing to know, I have finally found a way of deleting the number of messages purporting to be waiting to be read! Here goes:
1) Delete the latest message or messages by clicking "Delete"
2) The deleted message is now in "Trash".
3) Click on the "Move" box to the top right of the message.
Doing this produces a drop down beneath the "Move" box, offering 3 options:
Inbox
Pending Posts
+ Add a folder
4) Click on Inbox
A pop up message now appears with the words
Move
Message has been updated.
5) Click to OK this
6) The message is now back in the Inbox.
The number in the "<bell> Messages" box has now been reduced by one.
Repeat the process for the other most recently received messages.
Messages can still be permanently deleted, but that is another story! :
