I'm dreaming. They're suddenly not. They were a few minutes ago with ?Abrahams? at/near the top.
Andrew here - I've been fiddling and nearly messed up the whole forum - can't change one channel without affecting the others, although it's supposed to be possible.

I think I've succeeded in changing things back to how they were.....

        Thanks for trying.
At least the 'Search' facility seems to work, if anything a little more conveniently/generically than previously.

Shame you can't somehow save that setting, but at least it works.

I think I've got it working now, without affecting other channels / forums. (I didn't intentionally change anything to do with the 'Search' facility .....)

(If anybody spots any channels / forums that are alphabetically-sorted, but shouldn't be, please let me know!)

Maybe I didn't use the old basic search facility enough, usually opting for some sort of Advanced Search (but the page was a bit clunky: you had to type in 'Composer of the week' at one point iirc). Today, just entering 'Gloria Coates' brought up a variety of threads that let me easily see that she didn't already exist as a 'Composer'.

Any idea why a quoted post looks so different from the original?

See my original posted this morning on New releases and then copied/quoted in the Something for Friday (Bach) thread.

                  Just testing .... different again.

How did you post the quote? I did a dummy quote in the new releases thread and copied the text to this post.

I highlighted the original post on my iPad then took a copy and pasted it in the Write something box (inside 'quotes') on the second thread, having forgotten how to more readily quote from one thread in another!

I'm not sure why you needed to post inside quotes the second time. Why not just copy the Guardian link directly (it doesn't seem to matter whether you paste the link into the post or click on the link icon and paste the link into the pop-up window). Copy+paste seems to be the only way to post the same material into two threads. Or you can highlight "the Guardian article" (or chosen text), click on the link icon and post the link into the pop-up window to just get the red hotlink.

Good thought, but I was being lazy, and wanted to copy all that I'd already typed rather than just provide the links.
                        Nice picture though, eh?

Yes, I don't mind links posted like that. I added a sentence to my last as a reminder how to replace it by a simple hotlink.

Two problems today. I just tried deleting a PM because this was my only means of removing the figure in my incoming message box. I then wanted to delete the same PM from Delete. But when I clicked on "Delete Permanently" it sent me back to having to click on the individual PM. The trouble there is that this just goes back to square 1 and re-raises the PM, where there is no "Delete Permanently" facility on offer. It thus appears that there is no way to remove PMs. Help!

I've just managed to delete an old pm permanently, by clicking the box against it and then clicking on "Delete Permanently". Did you click on the box first to select it?

First of all the TRASH facility containing the message has the Delete permanently box at the top of the page. By clicking Delete permanently you then get a pop up stating ERROR - Please select one or more of the messages first, then select one of the actions. You click OK and go back to the same message to be deleted in TRASH. There is no "delete permanently" at the top of the page, so you go DELETE. It then asks Are you sure you want to send the deleted message(s) into Trash? But it's already IN Trash. What do you do at this stage?
