It must be something to do with how this box of text is thought of.
I use an iPhone 90% of the time (iPad the remaining 10%) and I must say that so far the new format seems to me significantly less user-friendly and - particularly - hard to navigate.

The old forum had two alternative formats, one closer to the current one, and another (can’t remember what it was called… “classic”?) which was far preferable. Are there alternatives here which I haven’t found yet?

Grateful and impressed as I am at the incredible effort to get things up and running, so far I’m finding that the current format on iOS equipment is somewhat of a deterrent to exploring and participating…

Found it: click on the A box to get the toolbar back!

Damn it! I keep clicking on "Who's Online", since that is approximately where the 'old' new posts button was to be found. 🤭

And that avatar of mine (not Andrew's) is around 52 year old, i.e. the photograph was taken during the Scratch Orchestra's 'Newcastle' tour.

Yes something very strange is happening. I posted that 1615 post from my phone, but all the others have been from my desktop. When I click on it it takes me not to the last post, but to that one at 1615. I think the forum's getting confused with multiple ip addresses for the same person. Does not compute.......

Another bit of odd behaviour in the Write something box on my iPad: Paste did not work (on trying to copy a link to an obituary in The Times for André Watts).

This might be a silly question, but was he actually logged in?

I know that this has been raised in part already but it does seem a bit odd that when logged in I can't see who's online(access denied) whereas that information automatically appears in full at the bottom of the "general public access" page. Somewhat contrary!

I'm not even sure if all that information should be available. I was surprised recently not only to see a list of members who might have been online, but also a complete list of members. Does the site have to be wary of privacy issues? Not sure.

I've not used this site enough now - in its present form - to be sure of all the quirks and differences from the previous site. What software is being used to drive it - is it different from vBulletin? It might of course be the same software, but just configured differently.

One thing I've noted - and I think it's been commented on already - but may not have changed - is the order of posts. Now I seem to have to go through the numbers to get to the latest posts = but given what I think may be a fluid situation - I'm not absolutely sure. It is useful to be able to get quickly to the most recent posts, but of course it may also be useful sometimes to get to the very first posts in a thread. Right now with fairly short thread this isn't such a big problem, but navigating may become more problematic if people write a lot.

I still find the vertical spacing too generous - which may be due to the icons and images to the left. Also I miss the red colour scheme, but I guess it's not essential.

Problems are being reported by members using the Edge browser: not being able to log in or not being able to post.

vBulletin acknowledges there have been issues. There shouldn't be, but just as well to try another browser if you have a difficulty.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

While it makes sense that once you've clicked on a thread in What's New it disappears (rather than simply staying there with the title unbolded, as used to happen), presumably as it's no longer New, it's a bit disconcerting, though something one will soon get used to, I suspect.

Also, on posting, as in just now, the new message appears at the bottom of the page I'm looking at, despite having changed the display order to latest at the top.
I seem to have to come out of the thread and go in again for the order to be correct.

The list of members was always available to logged in members through a special tab, though I think it was called Community, wasn't it? We disabled the Who's Online facility after someone complained about not liking people to be able to 'spy' [sic] on what others were looking at. When we switched it off only one person (no longer a member!) queried it. The problem is that Who's Online was then a menu item under the Quick Links dropdown. Turning it off made the item disappear from the menu completely. Now that What's Online has a tab of its own, the cover's blown and you get the unfriendly 'Go Away - You're Not Allowed See This' message. The permission could be granted though I'd need to investigate whether this was limited to logged in members.

In my Account settings my e-mail address is outside the box while 'petrushka' is in the box reserved for the email address. If I remove 'petrushka', correct it and also re-enter my email address in the second box then save changes, no change is made.
