    Uploading images to the forum

There are two methods of uploading images to this forum, the second of which I don't think is allowed yet.
    1. For images located externally to this server, press the 'Insert Image' located in the toolbar above the reply box, and insert the url of the externally-hosted image.

    2. If you wish to attach an image and host it here on this server, select 'Go Advanced' in the reply box, and go down (below the new reply box) to the 'Additional Options' box, and select 'Manage attachments': this will bring up a new popup box. Click on '+ Add files', click on 'Basic uploader', which will then allow you to browse your own machine and pick an image to upload. (I haven't got this method to work yet, because it says that the files are invalid, so I suspect this is a permission that frenchie has yet to set on the system.)

I'll try to keep this post updated as and when functionalities are switched on. It is possible of course that frenchie will want to keep this place reasonably free of images (because of server implications), so option 2 above might never get switched on.

Thank you for that, Russ. Yes, for the moment we don't want images uploaded since they take up a lot of space. Images on the internet can be linked in the way you described, and are fine. If people want to include their own images, they should be uploaded to one of the photo sharing sites first, and then linked to this site.

As far as I can determine there is no way of adjusting image size on a vBulletin forum - other forums use width=nnn or height=nnn within the IMG tag. This is a bit of a limitation especially when someone links to a large image as it will fill the screen - see eg Calum's post here

If you are using Flickr then what format does one need? I keep getting invalid file.

I don't know that file format matters. If it's already on the web, Copy Image Location and use the insert image icon (or just put [IMG] [/IMG] round it manually.

I usually use JPEG or PNG, upload to Photobucket and copy the image code, then paste (it automatically puts the [IMG] [/IMG] code in).

If it's on the web and the size looks to be very big, I drag and drop it on to my desktop and resize it before uploading to Photobucket.

Trouble is that if it is up on Flickr then you don't have Copy Image Location as far as I can see.

You can copy bbcode and this is a small excerpt http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8464/8...4d51c609_s.jpg If I put that URL into a browser then I can see a small image. But if I copy the URL into the Insert Image From URL option then I get Error: Invalid File.

Uncheck the box 'Retrieve remote file and reference locally'.

Either way, via the image icon or manually inserting the code, you get a rather small image. You need to enlarge it on your computer before uploading if you want a bigger image (what is it?).
