Errmmm I can read what you've written and I know what I think of your opinions.

No more or I'll be accused of squabbling again

Will follow up the various suggestions in a few days and, no, the sidebar hasn't been set up yet. I wanted to make sure I could do it!

No, the dithering comes from the fact that we have to delve down into the recesses and Mark thinks I might bomb the entire forum and we'd be unable to get it back

Um, a delicate point: a 'supporter' of FoR3 is someone who has contacted us directly and specifically said they support our stance against what the BBC is doing to R3. On the old BBC boards there were people whose views ranged from apparently sympathetic to positively anti. My idea was that all should feel welcome on this forum because it's important to me to be able to judge the range of opinion. And I also feel that it's a joy to have people who share a common interest in R3 without necessarily having the same outlook on other matters: we're not a group of like-minded people and I think we should be glad about that (just don't squabble!) . So I would avoid 'branding' the forum as being 'FoR3', and that's the reason, unlike with our previous forum, we've made no attempt to make it look like the rest of the site. [All this said, if anyone wants to join our band of 'supporters', receive our newsletters and provide me with valuable feedback, please do so via the FoR3 contact page. If you've used a pseudonym and a different email address here, I'm actually not aware whether you're a 'supporter' or not: my feeling is that the majority of posters are not registered supporters.]
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

        I understand, thanks frenchie!

Some sort of 'own brand' banner would be good, though - I'm not particular about the wording, and can see that there are fine lines to tread - in preference to the vBulletin name which is fairly meaningless...

But I can't begin to imagine the techincal issues.

I'm just glad we have this great Forum, thanks to you guys, to romp and play in - and occasionally squabble What's life for without the odd good-natured squabble!

Is there any possibility of a link to BaL choices, recent and/or archival? (I can never seem to find it myself.)

~I also like Doversouls idea of 'Useful links' or something like it...
For example, I'd post a link to
ubuweb, a great free resource that deserves support...and is sometimes used by certain late night r3 presenters.

            Thanks once again to ff.

Why not link to a Paypal "donate" box so everyone can show their support for the work you've done? Whether as official FoR3 supporters or people who are merely grateful for the new forum, I'll bet we'd all want to chip in. Here's the link:

PayPal is the safer, easier way to pay online without revealing your credit card number.

There are various lists, by composer, by date &c. perhaps the best thing would be to post them in a closed sticky in the BaL forum?

PayPal? Money? What would we do with money?

May start fiddling around with the first version at about midnight. I don't think it'll be necessary to close the forum but there may be some odd appearances and disappearances.

Remember that you can turn the sidebar off if you don't want to see it.

Upgrade your computers? Pay bandwith bills? Treat yourselves to ice cream sundaes for a job well done? I know you said you've got it covered, but I'm sure you could figure something out; the main thing is people want to give it to you. hmpf! So sue me.

I like the NPR idea. R3OK- fine. My suggestions are Charlie Gillett's forum, Folk Roots, BBC (TV) 4, and the new Friends of Radio 4 website. None, though, are essential from my point of view.

Sidebar just shows on the homepage. And if you close it, it does stay closed when you log in again. I'll enter up some more of the links in a day or two. I need another block or two to fill up the empty space

for me the sidebar as it shows now is of the right size and the right contents.
                        Well done FF

How do you make it show if it's not showing? (Or was that Roehre's joke which went over my head? )

Thanks FF, very useful. I already have all the links bookmarked but this saves time and all in one place.

How about linking the Radio 3 Twitter activity?

                            Only a suggestion.

I really do hope we do NOT go down the twitter route.

Just returned from a late dinner to find it up and running! Looks great. A further enhancement to this great forum

                                Many thanks.
