It is a pleasure to watch people 50 years younger than me aspiring to human excellence and in many disciplines performing with real grace and beauty. Better than setting fire to wheelie bins. The measured achievement is clearly an important part of it but does not need to be the key element - as in Young Musician competitions. It is, after all, called the Olympic Games. I found myself a bit nostalgic for the days of Mary Peters and co when a British medal had more rarity value and thus more piquancy. I got a bit fed up with commentators triumphantly chirping: Another great day for Team GB.
