I think "duncan" may wish to close down those with opinions different from his own. Troubling. I think it is just about fine. But nothing like the halcyon Kenyon era! (And not enough Bruckner...)

He'll be playing all the right notes, but not at the right speed.

I think it may be a classic R3 mess-up, I wonder if its meant to be Saint-Saens' Africa op89 as that's about 11 minutes long. After all the 5th Piano Concerto is subtitled 'Egyptian' and Egypt is in Africa!

While I`m glad to see there are 22 concerts being televised (live or deferred) it`s really disappointing to see that of that number, no fewer than 7 are pop/disco/DR Who type affairs. And earlier I was thnking back to the year when the Proms were cancelled due to Covid and R3 did a season of Proms from previous years back to 1987, and I wondered why they could`t mine their archives more regularly. Eg, a late night slot once or twice a month...

More dumbing down - Sam Smith,Florence and the Machine and Disco Night ! And next year Mr Jackson takes over - and no doubt we will have Essential Classics Prom when only movements and snippets are played .

Right to note short measure - 15 minute work and Bruckner 4 - where’s the concerto ?

I see the faux outrage from the tabloids, usually reserved for EU flags on the Last Night, is gearing up early this year. The Metro is going with 'Sam Smith made to put on ‘appropriate’ performance at BBC Proms after satanic backlash'.

Only approx. 22% of concerts are non-classical this year. Scroll down to get the whole list:

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Good to see that this orchestra has not become a casualty of the current situation in the Middle East.

You have to wade through the dross to find the nuggets of gold but they are there! The Proms from the Czech PO, BPO and Bavarian Radio SO are in my Proms Planner and there aren't likely to be any additions.

One of them may even have been on the Last Night, fifth item, first half, Saint-Saëns' Piano Conc. No.5, played by none other than Sir Stephen Hough.....except the duration is given as 11 mins! I would guess the middle movt. only will be played, with it's 'Egyptian' theme. Nice to see Angel Blue in it though - I thought La Rondine the other night pretty good.
