"BBC Proms has today announced the appointment of Hannah Donat to the role of director of artistic planning. Donat moves to her new role from her current position as artistic producer of the Proms which she has held for the last seven years.
Officially taking up her new role on 1 May, Donat will work closely with Radio 3 and BBC Proms controller Sam Jackson to ‘shape and deliver’ the annual Proms season, with events taking place in London and across the UK. The BBC has confirmed that recruitment will begin shortly for a new artistic producer."

So Sam ("BBC Proms Controller") will have a hand in it - nay - is in control .... (my heart sinks........)

maybe best left to opera choruses who have no difficulty ?

or was it a mic placement problem..?
Yes, Held E is not really a challenge for my T2 - I got it but not sounding my best from cold with a dry throat!

Hazelwood is a classical music conductor and musician. .Would take him over the non entities the BBC now use to present .

Will we be faced with a Donat-shaped Radio 3, with an even bigger hole in the middle, is the question.

They are the BBC Proms not Radio 3 Proms.

R3 is just historically the major participant.

The broader the spectrum of live music covered, the better for the BBC and for the 70% + who listen to it.

: the mot juste, surely ('donat-shaped')! And yes, I fear this will be the case.

As I said before, and trying to be fair to them (however hard it is) I think they've been given the Herculaen labour of 'correcting' the Caucasian and mostly male image classical music still has for many people. It's not a job I would relish.

                  whether

                  or
                  .

                  ... is the question

[ clearly Hannah is musical - it says on her BBC biog = "Hannah has been instrumental in her current role.... " ]

Wonder if she’s related to Mischa Donat a Radio 3 producer in the glory days ( well I thought they were ) …?

We used to moan like hell about Charlie Hazelwood... This just goes to show that nostalgia is not what it was.

I vaguely remember my mother lamenting Robert Donat's passing at an early age in the 50s. I believe he was a bit of a heartthrob in the 30s.

I know this is like picking the favourite Dr Who etc - you go for the one where you first felt the 'connection' - but it was Baker (Richard, not Tom, nor Colin), followed by Jim Naughtie, am I right?

                          And on the wireless, who....?

Well he was personable but musically everything I saw him conduct on the BBC was as bland as bland.

I say, I say, I say - how many people does it take to organize the BBC Proms? The answer seems to be 3 - a Director of Artistic Planning, an Artistic Producer of the Proms and a BBC Proms Controller.

Maybe the artistic producer is responsible for bringing about such genius elements as multiple searchlights dancing around behind the performers, to distract the audience from the potentially elitist seriousness of the music.
