That is so true and indicates that even virtuosi play better when its
…Pieces that suit them and their technique
….pieces they’ve been playing since Student days
….the pressure is off.
….they don’t have to follow the stick waver

But Oramo is wearing a Union ‘Jack’ weskit, which even I find a bit over the top. (He is a Finn.)

I too wish we could have a more 'serious' first half, before the shenanigans (which I don't mind at all)

Have to say that following the day of near hysteria on R3 anticipating some sort of musical Second Coming much of the music played so far has been pretty second rate and some of the singing distinctly average . The naysayers I contradicted early on May well have had a point….

As rehearsed before here, the only bit of the second half I do dislike is the bloody Round Britain Tour. Don't mind the pieces, but should all be in the RAH.

Incoherent, 'Your Hundred Best Tunes' type programmes have been the norm at the LNotP for some time now but this one is more incoherent than most. And, yes, as already said, mostly second rate music.
