The TV side isn’t Radio 3 but the TV music people. There’s no hype in the Glasto presentation and no hyperbole but plenty onstage obvs. To listen to Georgia and Petroc on Friday you would have thought the first night was The Second Coming. It’s just a concert ..

I get that difference - but it appears to me that both R3 and tv presentation went over the top in the way you describe. What I witnessed of the tv presentation seemed intrusive and not very useful - unless you start from the premise, as I was suggesting, that the presenters have to sell classical music as being interesting.

Haven’t watched the TV yet. There were depressing signs of over - hype last year - it sounds like things have ratcheted up. Mind you Sandi Tosvig is usually very downbeat isn’t she ?

Yes - and Nicola Benedetti too: it was Clive Myrie who insisted on the OTT style (perhaps under direction).

I thought it was KatieD with Petroc at first, so OTT was the breathless twittering - disappointed to find it was Georgia. Even when she is getting a bit excitable on her morning show I don't think I have ever mistaken her for KD.

I won’t be bothering to go then. They just love making things complicated that were perfectly all right before.
You can still buy tickets at the RAH, but they start selling them at the same time as the online sale, mostly at 10.30AM on the day (a few the day before) so popular things will sell out well before the evening:

'If you are unable to purchase online, you can book from the Door 12 box office from 10.30am on the day. Except Proms 3, 11, 12, 20, 22, 29, 38, 47, 48, 54, 63 & 64 for which Day Promming tickets will be available from 10.30am the day before the Prom ... Your ticket guarantees you a space in the Hall. We are limiting queuing at the point of entry to 90 minutes before the concert starts, however for those wishing to secure a specific place in the queue, queue numbers will be handed out from 9am on the day of the concert. Please go to Door 12 to collect your queue number.'

For me, online sales are an improvement because I spend less time in the queue, and I know I have a ticket before going. This time I didn't have a number and got there after the Gallery queue had already been let in, but I was still just about able to find a place with a view.

Exciting, I think, rather than just interesting.

I tried, I really did! Why is that R4 treats me like an adult but TV and Radio 3 think I am a child. It’s actually very difficult to focus on the music after these ridiculous introductions.
