I think that’s not the whole story . Radio 3 sound ( both engineering ( the technicians) and operations ( the sound balancers ) was in-house then and still is as far as I know - though there will no doubt be a freelance element . Quite recently a few studio managers have had their retirements announced on air which suggests they are BBC staff ! TV outside broadcast sound was almost certainly done by an outside contractor most of whose staff would have been ex BBC or ITV . If you read the article you can see that there are two separate sound operations at the the Proms - the Radio balance and the TV balance - though there is a great deal of working together inevitably.

Yes, I was already well aware of the separate Radio and TV operations. However, the Brabbins performance of 'The Gothic' was radio only. Roger Wright acknowledged the outsourcing at the time.

I enjoyed the Sibelius a great deal especially the finale which can sound rather overblown in some hands . Ehnes remains a violinist I am not on the same wave length with - I admired it but it seemed rather lightweight and lacking in passion . The Barry would have had Kafka calling for extra earplugs.
