Indeed, but I was an uppity teenager at the time and was not enamored with the idea of Flash conducting Beethoven. My bad. The whole concert was a delight.

I haven't yet heard this concert but as it's on TV I'll record it and watch in due course (after editing out the chat).

The Coleridge Taylor concerto is worth hearing , cheerful and tuneful if not particularly memorable. I look forward to hearing it again.

The Rachmaninov/Respighi etudes used to be on an HMV/Melodiya LP in the 1970s, but alas! I cannot now trace the details. As I recall, the orchestration was very well done; it made quite a thrilling orchestral showpiece.

Not the recording you were referring to but see https://www.prestomusic.com/classica...transcriptions and https://www.amazon.co.uk/Respighi-Tr.../dp/B000003D0Z

          Its on bbc four tomorrow.

Performance of perhaps the most famous classical symphony ever written, Beethoven’s Fifth.

was wondering when people mentioned its on tv, did a google and found a special page about it....hope to catch it on the telly as only caught the end of it when it was live.

I edited my TV recording this morning but haven't listened to the music yet. As well as the 'celeb-chat' I also edited out the soloist's encores. I don't like these on principle as they disrupt the momentum of the concert. I feel for the orchestra members expected to sit in silent admiration whe they ought to be allowed to go for a drink.

Very much enjoyed watching this prom and the chats in the interval, some interesting history of each piece. Well worth finding on bbc iplayer if you missed the broadcast.

I still have it. ( Excellent no-nonsense performance by Chu and the BBCNOW this year, BTW)
