I could offer plenty of opinions, none of which are certainties. currencies, share prices etc fluctuate all the time.
To present a fall in the pound as being directly related to an opinion poll is simply misleading at best.
What is more, of course, when the currency rebounds, will it be presented as being "despite" an opinion poll from a few days ago?

It is spin, pure and simple.

Incidentally, for clarity, are you suggesting that a small fall in the dollar /pound rate really represents a weakening of the UK economy?
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Stay home and fight for what you believe is right has always been my position. I see you've been away from these shores for quite some time now?

Nevertheless, all it takes is for someone such as a newspaper to sow a rumour, and all the money that's been made in this, or any other country - by fair means or foul, but that's a matter of (literal) accoutability - can be shifted abroad at the touch of a keyboard. Now, if some worthily unscrupulous person were to hack into those speculators' computers, gumming up the international financial markets...

I hope you're enjoying your prolonged stay abroad, and that the people there appreciate your presence.

              Indeed they do.

You'll do even better in Bhutan when you get out of your armchair and get into praxis.

are you deliberately pressing people's Bhutans?

You're nearly qualified to be part of the faux-left, MrGG.

Since when has the monarchy had anything to do with democracy?

As simply as I can possibly put it, amateur51, if opinion polls consistently show a solid majority for anything this might be generally recognised by even 'expert' observers to reflect the "will of the people" and therefore safely qualify as being labelled "democratic".

According to my professional definitive references, something might be considered "undemocratic" only if it fails to accord with the above standard.

Therefore, with the aid of simple logic, I have (against all the odds) somehow managed to deduce that the British Monarchy, existing as it does with the clear approval of a very large majority, is indeed worthy of the term "democratic".

If, however, you demand a full referendum on this matter (or indeed any other) Mr David Cameron, MP for Witney, is undoubtedly the man to contact!
