    BBc news announced today that the pound had fallen almost 2 cents against the dollar, after a poll put the yes campaign ahead.
    They also mentioned that share prices in Scottish companies had fallen.

    I wonder who got THAT story,( and a story of course is what it is, )written up like that ?

    very naughty.

      Why/how so? The currency fluctuations did indeed occur since late last evening and the share prices have fallen today; it's not so hard for those who work in those areas to obtain information on the reasons for these.

              No, it's not only Northern Ireland, it's Bhutan too.

              But feel free to emigrate to these more 'altruistic' countries, if you want to put your money where your mouth is, figuratively speaking.

                you don't think that presenting that information in that way is potentially or actually biased, especially at this stage?

                Thoe facts are not necessarily connected in any way.

FOr the record, those entitled to vote in the referendum are identified at http://scotreferendum.com/questions/...he-referendum/
                    Blimey, hadn't realised that.

                    So you and George (learn to duck) Galloway, can't vote in the referendum, but Giuseppe di Campagnola in Glasgow can!!!

                    Bloody EU - makes a mockery of everything!!

                      They might or might not be. It's the fact that there exist people capable of breaking an economy on the basis of rumour that stinks about this whole thing - you never hear a squeak from the Beef Ovens about this sort of occurrence. I well remember first becoming aware of this sort of thing happening: it was when speculators engineered a run on the £ in 1974 when it was thought Labour would win the forthcoming election, causing more loss to the Exchequer than had been caused by all the industrial actions that had taken place over the previous 4 years of Heath's government.

                        Indeed, it's 'be kind to the faux-left week', and I'm doing my bit (who said neo-realists can't be altruistic!!).

                            Have you got any other suggestions for why the weakening of the UK economy happened just at this point?

                              I can think of two:

                              1) The speculative class went on a binge;
                              2) The speculative class sobered up.

                              I seem to be exceptionally cynical today... <erm>
