    100 Years of Peace

we have had over one hundred years of nigh continuous war and conflict .... could we aim just a little higher?

Perhaps our armed forces could, like those of Caligula two millennia ago, take on Neptune, Vulcan and the river gods. I'm sure it would be more useful than the pointless and destructive foreign interventions of the last decade or so.

I thought they were finally taking on the river gods in Somerset?
Though, why on earth is it always presented as some kind of fantastically wonderful "extra" public spirited thing that they do if there is a need for help?
Surely instead of paying these folks vast amounts of money to die pointlessly in wars we could actually have them do some good in the world ?
I'm sure the folks of Somerset AND Bangladesh could do with the use of amphibious vehicles ?

yep just think what we could have done for our Victorian water and sewage management systems if we had spent the money from the Iraq and Afghan adventures on their renewal instead
