No. He says he's doing these things, but as he refuses to consult with teachers on any topic whatever, he just causes chaos. Nearly everything he does is copied from someone else, but too late. Victorian methods; pension reform and performance management had been sorted out and implemented under Charles Clarke and it was working very well, but Nutter G. had to wreck in on order to show how Macho he wishes he was. Now he is tearing up Teachers Pay and Conditions bit by bit. I could go on (and probably will).

              Very good

Now, I know you are a very well respected chap
but what are we supposed to do about this?

My concern is for the young people I meet every week
voting ? not going to change anything at all.
OR should we simply give up?

Personally speaking, I think music is much more important than any of these fuckwits
Politeness and respect don't seem to have got us anywhere, how does one engage with people who wont even have a conversation with people who really know about education?

I'm not a teacher BUT most weeks I meet some extraordinary teachers (I might not share their taste in music or even agree with their politics) but am often in awe at the ability so many have to communicate, often with youngsters who have chaotic and disordered lives. THAT'S where my respect goes.

But being at a loss is more than a little depressing

(Todays work partly involves writing examples for a teachers resource for KS3 composition but am I just wasting my time? )

take no notice really, I was 50 last week so it's probably that (now time to get on the Harley ? )

Camila Batmanghelidjh: Children who can obey rules mostly do. Bad behaviour is often the result of maltreatment and neglect, the answer for which is better social care

Not the 'standard definition of music', you mean? ;-)

Or the standard definition of teaching, apparently.

D'you know, I just love this woman?? If this were a republic I'd vote her President. Her organisation is just up the road from here. If there's any money left in my kitty when I go I can't at present think of a better place to leave it.

Responding to #89 and 90, the putting on of a school play or musical is an extra-curricular activity, but one which can galvanise many different talents...from both staff, parents and pupils in a school. There should be a tremendous buzz about the whole thing, and very often surprising qualities emerge from kids who have been shy or maybe disaffected in routine aspects of school. Speaking from my own experience as a kid, and from seeing my own kids and their friends throwing themselves into drama productions, there is probably nothing to look back on with such a sense of fulfilment.

A school which has not managed a production in living memory should fail its Ofsted IMO, however many boxes it has ticked.

Expectation is sadly lacking it seems. Expect a lot and you'll get a lot. Of course teachers should be qualified, but being qualified is surely a basic minimum requirement (like passing your driving test). Qualification of itself doesn't produce brilliant, inspired, talented teachers.
