The acute sensitivity of some of the delicate flowers in here prevents me from saying what I think about this man
Thank you Mr GG - I am obliged to you for your consideration.

An extraordinarily dangerous fool - like Lansley was at the NHS.

Interesting comments on a phone-in this morning - a teacher claiming that, made to litter pick as a punishment, unable to find any, the kids emptied contents of bins at the back of their school into their bin liners!

So now it's been moved here
may I be the first to say what a useless pile of shite he is
and I look forward to the day when his face no longer appears anywhere in the media
regardless of whatever comedy 'government' he belongs to he deserves nothing more than contempt

                aaaaaaaaaaaaah

I see he now wants State schools to use Common Entrance to test their pupils.

That means Primary schools will have to make room in their curricula for Latin.

                  Interesting prospect.

The problem with this dangerous idiot is that he completely disregards ALL the experience and evidence from those who really do know (regardless of politics) about education.
It's like having someone who believes in homeopathy in charge of the NHS ....... er oops ;-)

The fact that you can fail it in itself means it's not what is required - it was never intended for 'measuring pupils' progress' but as a means of keeping the academically weaker pupils out of your school.

That way you can continue to maintain the 'high standards' for which the private sector is famous.

The Common Entrance exam is taken by 13-year-olds at the end of their Prep Schools and the papers are marked by the Public School they wish to go to. So if you want to go to a top academic one you have to do better than if you go to a less academic one. At least, that's how it used to be. So it's not necessarily a 'pass or fail' situation.

For pupils educated at state primaries, they would have to have specialist teaching in Maths, French, (maybe Latin...I'm not sure if that's still obligatory) Science, History, etc, etc in years 5 and 6 in order to be anywhere near CE at the end of year 8. The present primary school system where a class-teacher does everything would not begin to prepare kids for CE.

If Gove is suggesting kids take CE in ADDITION to everything else, they'll spend more time being examined than taught. As it is (as I know from my own g-kids) there seems to be an imbalance...they spend more time being assessed than taught.
