      Hardly a subtle quote ;-)
Not spotting it would loose you marks in a 20th Century musicology exam

Gove has been spouting again today, only a few days after making a fool of himself with the Home Secretary.
His speeches are always have an agenda of retribution, hence his second or third hand idea of unannounced Ofsted inspections to avoid "concealing failure".
As for promoting "British values", all he means is "Gove's values". His simple brain is incapable of anything else.

          "British Values" ???

          WTF

Why Rick Mayall and not Gove ?
There's no justice in the world

(at this point mrPee used to pop up with his faux outrage and mock offence at someone wishing ill of someone in the establishment !)

Michael Gove appears to be not only contradicting his own National Plan for Music, but he might be about to destroy music education altogether

            WTF indeed.

TBF, I think Mr Pee was genuinely outraged and offended, though.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I don't think we do ourselves, our arguments or the Forum any favours by wishing anyone dead. Perhaps we might discontinue this line of discussion.
That having been said, I think the oxygen bandit in question should be removed from office without delay.

And please stop attacking Mr Pee, or anyone else on the Forum, past or present.

                  Point taken
But (and i'm NOT advocating going and doing him in !) there's precious little to be gained sometimes (and NOT always) from "rational discussion" look where being "reasonable" and "sensible" has got teachers with this man?
Assuming that somehow people will always defer to logic and reasoned argument can be a rather dangerous position.

A joke at someone who isn't presents expense is hardly an "attack" IMV (but other views are perfectly acceptable and valid)

The context of my comment was this (FWIW)

I was at KX station on the way home after a rather wonderful gig with the OAE. Sadly there had been a fatality on the East Coast line so as the time got later and later the large screen showing the news rolled round and round between the sad news of Rick Mayall's death and the image of Gove. It seemed tragic to me that they were that way round. I don't wish death of Mr Gove but ...............

I wonder when politicians and voters will finally wake up to seeing what a disaster this man (Mr Gove) is.

Sadly, I don't think they will
Though i'm on a train to Aberdeen today and in between rehearsals might venture onto Union street and try and persuade some of the locals to take him back !

Will it continue to be acceptable in 99 days' time for Scots like him (or indeed Scots unlike him, which mercifully is most of them) to promote "British values" in any case should the referendum result favour Scottish independence?

To paraphrase Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, "All whimsy from the borrowed Goves", peut-être?...

Gove's 'British values' have now been encoded in the funding agreement between academies or free schools and the DfE – a contract that is the legal basis of the relationship between an academy and the government. The new wording will apply to all free schools and academies opening or schools converting to academy status. They are "democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs"..

They are, of course, a response to the so-called Trojan Horse case in Bradford, and aimed at keeping 'Islamist extremists' out of schools. However, they can also be applied to other extremists - I look forward to some of the extremist Christian schools being closed.

I wasn't aware that there were extremist Christian schools. Tell a bit more.

Well, of course, interpretations will vary, but here is an apparent candidate.

The government is opposed to extreme views being taught to English pupils, yet across the UK many students follow a Christian "fundamentalist" curriculum.

                                Thanks JimD

I can't see much in that, that would be a threat to British society. And if the Islamic schools are doing the equivalent, I think they should be left to get on with running the schools as they wish. I'm sure I've missed something.
