Reading in Christopher Clark's book about WW1, it's chilling to learn of the memorandum of 1844 which drafted a blue-print for a 'unification of all Serbs', especially when we remember the Greater Serbia which the Serbs were attempting to achieve in the 1990s. Tito's Yugoslavia, a union of the southern Slavs, had kept a check on Serbian ambitions: when Serbia is safely in the EU, Europe will be a safer place. I think that's more in line with LibDem concerns than everyone being allowed to grow their favourite carrot.
