The Real Seeds people are incorrect in saying that the Commission (unelected civil servants in Brussels) 'draws up law'. And they seem to be really chuffed that their(?) campaign and (elected) MEPs have made such a difference to the Commission's 'law'.

Reading in Christopher Clark's book about WW1, it's chilling to learn of the memorandum of 1844 which drafted a blue-print for a 'unification of all Serbs', especially when we remember the Greater Serbia which the Serbs were attempting to achieve in the 1990s. Tito's Yugoslavia, a union of the southern Slavs, had kept a check on Serbian ambitions: when Serbia is safely in the EU, Europe will be a safer place. I think that's more in line with LibDem concerns than everyone being allowed to grow their favourite carrot.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

but its about much more than the freedom to grow our favourite carrots isn't it? (and the carrot issue is about only sterile varieties being available, if I read it correctly).
It's about how big (agri and other)business enforces its will the world over, with elected representatives and bureaucrats doing their will.

The woes of developing world farmers , and the strife that follows when people become desperate are surely part of the same problem?
Leaving aside Serbia, (which is important I accept), much off the violence, fear, shortage and danger of the world is the direct result of western (including EU member) governments seeking to further their interests, and those of their financial lords in the city, arms producers and others.

If the EU could free itself from the grip of the banks (and others big money interests), perhaps, just perhaps, it might be worth believing in. Until then , for me, it is part of the problem, not part of the answer.

But then I still can't figure out why everybody dislikes big government , unless its the supranational variety . Must be me, I suppose !

Libdems main concern I would guess, will be the forthcoming disaster at the polls next time round.

Edit: and yes, this IS how we anarchists like to spend Saturday afternoon.

I merely pointed out that, as a lobby group with some interest in the matter, they appeared to have a very vague idea of how the EU actually operates, which must affect the way they think about it too. A point which has a general application.

          Fair comment.

          And a worrying one.
I wonder how many board members know the name of their MEP? I don't.

You haven't got one - you live in a very large constituency and you've got several.

One of mine is Nick Griffin.

Because MEPs are elected by a proportional system, it's really important to use your vote. If only a small number of people had been aware of this, he wouldn't have been elected.

Look at this table, and weep!

its because they have time on their hands, not being footy fans.

                  HaHa!

You may indeed have a point. See if you can get them to watch this. If I try, they'll just start publicising the UKIP all over again.

In my case only because I sought to put forward - as indeed I stilll do - the fact that there is not a single political party that inspires anything like as much trust as at least one of them needs to do; that's not a slight against UKIP per se but against all of them.
