There is evidence Britain was inappropriately involved in the rendition and ill-treatment of terror suspects, an inquiry has revealed.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
I heard a piece about this on Today this morning. Clearly, a good deal of specific evidence gathering and subsequent deliberation on that evidence remains to be done before any conclusions can reasonably be drawn from what has so far been said about this but, in the interim, its potential gravity can hardly be underestimated; all that can be hoped for is that there will be no covering of tracks, withholding of evidence and excuses for anything inexcusable, that the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth be revealed in due course and that appropriate action be taken within a reasonable timescale once the findings have entered the public domain.
