India's High Court Ruling on Gay Sex

The [Indian] Supreme Court on Wednesday reinstated a colonial-era ban on gay sex that enables the jailing of homosexuals in a major setback for rights campaigners in the country.

    Hindustani Times
undertook a poll of readers asking whether or not they agreed with the court's rescinding the law. An overwhelnming vote of over eithty per cent voted against the Court's ruling.

Avaaz is organising a petition of the Supreme Court and of the Indian Parliament.

The Supreme Court just ruled that gay people who express their love can spend the rest of their lives in prison. But if enough of us build the chorus of outrage, we can overturn this craziness. Add your voice.

    Thank you.

I've signed it too. It's a very sad state of affairs and one that evidences a desire on the part of the Indian authorities for continued repression in a nation that's supposed to be developing.
