That's not entirely true, is it, ff? There might be only two people who are openly hostile, to the point of being homophobic, but there are others who express distaste at homosexuality or gay rights being discussed, who don't like it being 'pushed down their throats'. They don't realise, or understand, that the prevalent 'heterosexuality' of the board is oppressive to those who don't share their tastes, & that any discussion of homosexuality is actually fairly minor compared to the prevailing tone. And I fear that you appear to be intent on being counted among them.

I fail to see what you mean by "the prevailing tone" of these boards being somehow oppressively heterosexual, although if you really find a fellow boardee mentioning his wife to be such, then I fear the problem is more with you and your own hang-ups than with the boards themselves- how will you cope at a Christmas party, when somebody mentions their wife or girlfriend- or even, heaven forfend, brings them along? Will you feel oppressed?
90% of the time here on the boards, the only mention of sexuality of any kind is on these tiresome threads started by amateur. And I can't help but think that if the thread really was to do with Britten, then he would have been mentioned in the title....Last edited by Mr Pee; 06-12-13, 08:30.Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

I for one would love to see a MrGG designed Venn Diagram with sub groups containing the LPO (or did he mean PLO ?!) and MI5.
Please somebody.....I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

You mean along the lines of
How many folks in the LPO are "Bears" ?
How many folks in MI5 are "Bears"?
How many folks are in both MI5 and the LPO ?
(the LPO offices and MI5 building are next door to each other and opposite the arches at Vauxhall for those who don't know ........)

This is not about 'human rights', in general - it is about a right in which you take a special interest and keep raising. The reason that it's the only one that keeps getting moved down here is because, as I said, all the other 'special interest' posters have either given up or left the forum.
What is or is not 'balderdash' in my view and in your view is, again, clearly, a matter of opinion. Some issues have been about gay rights - like the one JLW started about the situation in Russia. But since there are probably only two people on this forum who would dispute the validity of gay rights, with the rest defending them, along with all human rights (and I do recall one or two other who also oppose the concept of human rights altogether) you have, at best a virtually entirely sympathetic audience, at worse people who want to get on with discussing other subjects.
You don't get the PMs of support that I get from people who do not post on the Board but who are sympathetic to some of the issues raised on some of the thread dealing with lesbian and gay issues.
LGBTI issues are clearly a part of human rights discussions. As we are discussing Nelson Mandela at the moment it's worth noting that the constitution of Mandela's rainbow nation includes the first such mention of protecting the rights of LGBT people in a national constitution.
Whether or not there is a sympathetic audience for these issues here I shall continue to raise them. My choice of where to put Tom Daley thread was because the link between Britten and Daley was their sexuality and contemporary treatment of gay men in their lifetimes. If I had put that thread into Talking About Music, I would not have been able to defend it. If I had put it in Current Affairs, it would get seen by only a small proportion of members. I put it in Platform 3 because I wanted a wide audience for it. It's a bit rich when the moderator acting as censor takes a member to task for avoiding censorship. I guessed from your past record that ultimately you would send the thread to the basement and that I would get ticked off but I felt that it was worthwhile taking that risk in order to raise the issue.
