Anyway, yes, there's even a petition being run to have him released, which is surely about as absurd as it gets and I've not looked it up but undesand that it's already attracted at least 30,000 signatures. Some "hero"!
    That's what I meant
Once you have been deemed to be a "hero" , which seems as simple as putting on the right costume
then you can, apparently, do no wrong.

It's "interesting" to note how much coverage there is in some media of support for this man.
Even on the BBC news last night there was an interview with a friend of his , contrast that with the coverage of other high profile convicted murderers.
Yeah, too true matey. And what about Lee Rigby's murderers pleading not guilty!!!? I bet you're going mad about it.

Since this sort of thing's your bag, I'm gonna let you go first and vent your spleen about it. Let me know when your done, and then I'll have a go. ;-)

I don't see any campaign in support of them do you ?
I always thought that the law should be applied equally
but realise that this doesn't seem to apply to "our lads"
I'm not mad about people pleading one way or the other, I would be if they were given the kind of leniency that many demand for mr marine.

There is a world of difference between unstable and deluded people committing murder and a murder committed by a UK soldier. BUT the result is the same, dead people where there should be none.
Some comments today have suggested that we should withdraw from the Geneva convention.

on reflection is your quoted comment an entry for "non sequitur of the day" ?

What about it? At the moment they are allowed to plead whatever they like. Their plea might disagree with yours or the Sun's views of their guilt, but you are not their judge or their jury.

Can you provide a link to that petition? I'd be most grateful.

I think there's one for Ian Huntley as well if you are so keen on getting murderers released
though I guess he isn't "one of our lads" so not the "best in the world"

A poll on the Huffington Post website shows that 53.8% consider that Sgt.Blackman has been treated too harshly, and 46.2% consider that he has been treated fairly:-

Which, if nothing else, shows what an alternative universe most contributors here seem to live in.

And here's a link to the petition, for those who wish to add their names to the tens of thousands who have already registered:-

                            Indeed

Just shows how much stupidity there is in the world

Sgt. Blackman was tried by a court martial made up of experienced soldiers who, it is clear, took account of the issues raiserd by his would-be defenders here and elsewhere.

Given that the court heard all the evidence presented for each side, and the board members who would sign this petition and other would-be defenders have not, what precisely would be the grounds for reducing his sentence?

I presented a summary of the court's findings in post #400 in case that helps.

quote from the Court Martial Judge.

Sentencing Blackman, Judge Advocate General Jeff Blackett said the commando had betrayed the armed services.

"You treated that Afghan man with contempt and murdered him in cold blood," the judge said.
