It's a quote from a running discussion which had digressed to discussion firstly of gay matters, and then to other topics.

JLW cast the first stone with Tchaikovsky:

    Mr Pee objected:

But that also is in another thread, standing as the first post and also makes little sense.

Mr Pee's objections raised various other concerns and then we had:

Alpen cannot resist making unjustified (in my view) acid comments about Gove so I thought this just a tad hypocritical.

    Discuss if you like.

    Crikey, this is getting complicated......

Well, yes, off tack from Msg #2 of that thread, as I recall. That doesn't mean that yet another tack can't also be considered as a separate issue.

I would have no objection whatsoever to Alpen making his many comments about Gove if they were supported by the discussion of the issues in the teaching profession
And you are perfectly entitled to put him on the spot and ask for a clearer explanation in a relevant discussion
but they're not - and neither were your or Jean's comments either by the way.
I don't recall commenting specifically on Mr Gove in that thread (if that is indeed what you are referring to). I have a general interest in education but know nothing about the present teaching profession, especially not in schools.

Or we could just stop talking about politicians on a music thread altogether, maybe?

Or better still, stop talking about them at all!
          Best regards,

Oh, that made me laugh, sort of a load of old lentils then? <disabled smiley emoticon>
Actually, I have no idea of what this thread is about except being kind to each other but I don't think Michael Gove is all bad as he seems to want children to be able to write grammatically and spell correctly by a certain age (as, indeed, we were all taught to do)

I do. With exam results which resemble old-style communist election results (but delivering youngsters who cannot write or do their maths properly, let alone "real" science or humaniora) and an education system which needs IMO a complete overhaul IF Britain wants to stay in the league of countries offering good education, his approach -whatever the side effects- is in any case progress compared to what his predecessors the last two decades have proposed and executed.

You mean he actually has a plan, other than to allow unqualified teachers in in order to cut costs, and elsewhere to attempt (unsuccessfully) divide-and-rule? There's a great deal wrong with our education system, but this nutter will only make it much worse.

I seem to recall a Question Time on which Michael Gove appeared:
In the week of the government's annual Budget, David Dimbleby presents from York.

There were the expected questions on education and most of the panel (if not all) were supportive of what Mr Gove was trying to do.

That might be usual in your staff common-room, but I've never seen it on QuestionTime. March might be a tricky time to get pomegranates.

What is extraordinary about Gove is that he has managed to alienate more or less everyone involved in education regardless of their politics
