However, whatever our strong views on the matter, I fail to see the logic of the following:

    a) 'Gay Marriage' should not be prevented from becoming law in the UK because it is only opposed by a minority. (according to polls)
    b) The measure against 'Gay Promotion' should have been prevented from becoming law in Russia (and should now be repealed) even though it is only opposed by a minority.(according to polls)

I really do struggle with the apparent compatibility of both contentions!
While majorities may pave the road to laws, something being or becoming a law does not mean that you ought not be able to use legal ways showing discontent. Any person can disapprove of any law, depending on his/her own morality.

So anyone may support a) and b) because out of his/her morality Gay marriage ought to be allowed.

Also, Democracy in our modern version provides protection for minorities, in the case that they might run afoul of the majority. Human rights, for example. If you deem laws against gay marriage an oppression of human rights, then majority opinion simply doesn't come into play.

If you are not religious, but can really appreciate where those with a strong religious belief are coming from, you must have a very powerful intellect. They certainly baffle poor little me!

I wonder how Scotty is coping with the Russian proposal that the children of homosexuals should be removed for their own protection? I assume that he approves, since he approves of RC adoption agencies not placing children with gay or lesbian couples. On the other hand, he disaproves of outsiders interfering in the right of other countries to make their own laws. SO he can't express his approval because that would be an interference. Such a conundrum for the poor thing! (although I've no doubt that he will attempt to wriggle out of it)

                  I've already explained my position.

Why are you suddenly so reluctant to put yourself into the minds of people oppressed by other people because of how they were born?

So has Scotty. But you steadfastly refuse to accept his point of view as valid, or indeed the views of anyone who doesn't agree with every word you say, as RM pointed out.

Yet another of your hobby horses. You really are a bit of a stuck record these days, Amateur.

And I too have also explained my position. Why is it that you cannot put yourself into the minds of those who hold religious beliefs?
