Very droll, I'm sure although, whoever (if anyone) it might have been "good for", I do not imagine that many "Essex boys" are Parsis and I suspect that even less were Parsis in the last decade of the 19th century when Sorabji was born. No marks for the oven(!) there, then...

That comment is pretty insensitive to a practising Christian.

So ..at a stroke...you have determined that anyone who is religious lacks the capacity for reason. That the fact that they have any sort of religious conviction is a direct result of 'brain-washing'. How delightfully bigotted is that viewpoint.

What many Christians have practiced over the 2 millennia since Jesus of Nazareth's time has often been pretty insensitive to those both of and not of their faith. I suggest that they turn the other cheek to any insensitivity they might perceive.

Please re-read this - perhaps (for you) several times and then think carefully about it, one bitg at a time - in order to try to get a more realistic grip on exactly what it is that am51 is and is not saying - and, while we're at it, "bigoted" has only one "t".

Oh wow. I am in shock and awe at this decisive contribution to the debate. Let me run through it again just to be sure I got it the first time.

                "Oh dear".

                Yup....got it the first time.

Now, what was it you were trying (feebly) to say with that comment ?

Your compassion and appreciation of an individual's perspective is touching and appreciated. God loves even you.

Leon Dudley Sorabji would not be very exotic these days. Chingford is now in London (since the early 1960s) and is part of one of the most ethnically diverse boroughs in the capital.

And as a born and bread Essex lad with an English mum, he would definitely be unremarkable (save for his utterly enormous talent and intellect).

Were you brain-washed as a child or is your religion something you took up more recently?

What else would you call adults imposing a supernatural belief system on a young child?

Oh dear, the infamous sense of humour failure rears its ugly mug again

Well my command of English is as a second language, what's your excuse?

Can you ever keep on topic, btw?
