He didn't give it away anonymously to a charity shop, he didn't pass it on to a gay friend, he didn't put it in the bin. He burned it.
It should be mentioned that Mr. Hollinghurst's productions do not for the most part treat of what we might for want of a better expression term "main-stream" homo-sexualism. The above-mentioned "wonderful eroticism" in them has its existence principally in the eyes and minds of people who go for the darkies. I mention this because it may well throw light upon Mr. Guiness's leanings histories and disturbances.

As soon as a translation, both literal and motivic, of Sydney's latest is made available, I'd be grateful for a copy.

That Grewsome canard yet again! The superfluous hyphen's bad enough but there's really no useful purpose to be served by making homosexuality sound as though it were some kind of profession!

I'm playing Scottycelt's Random Associations game. 93% of Russians think it's the best way to conduct a discussion.

Ask scotty; he's demonstrably adept at acts of linguistic legerdemain!

It might be borderline bearable as long as it is met with Welsh humour at regular intervals!

Mr. H. is well aware that "homo-" is Greek while "sex" is Latin. . . . In the words of William Plomer, "Mother loves to pretend to be extremely simple. She’s a fausse naïve."

I am indeed aware of that but remain unconvinced that this justifies your use of the hyphen, although I presume that you believe that it does so and that is why you write as you do here; quite how the application of such a principle would justify "inter-net" or "to-day" nevertheless remains in doubt.

I don't quite see the relevance of that here and I see no rejoinder to my remark about your suffixing of "-ism" to "homo[-]sexual"...

Then you'll stop doing it? Excellent!

But in yet another effort to return to the topic(!) I note that the thread has exceeded 700 posts without anyone having yet said anything on the subject of musicals about homophobia; I'm unaware of any by the Gershwins, Rodgers and Hammerstein or ditto and Hart, Porter and Kern seem to have eschewed the topic and even Bernstein and Sondheim appear to have steered well clear of it, but if anyone has any more recent examples then perhaps they should be introduced into the discussion.

This usage (though without the hyphen) has spread alarmingly in the last few days.

I'm more curious about what Mr Grew might mean by

...people who go for the darkies.
