Of course I object to religiously-inspired hatred of lesbians & gay men. Lesbians and gay men are born such; Catholics are not, they are, for the most part, brain-washed at birth to be Catholics, whereas most lesbians and gay men are brain-washed not to be lesbian or gay, despite that being their nature.

To be fair, there are such people as voluntary Catholics (even if they represent a minority of Catholics), including those who decide to covert to Catholicism in adulthood - but your point is nevertheless wholly valid and well made; indeed, I would question the validity and credibility per se of a "religion" that inspires, encourages or even demands discriminaton against, let alone hatred of, non-heterosexual men and/or women, since a "religion" is by definition and common understanding supposed to be founded upon perceived universal and inviolable truths and its codes are supposed to exist for the benefit of mankind.

The striking thing about the tyrannies you mention is that they were (are) all avowedly atheist ( no recognition of God) The State was (is) 'God'.

So in a sense you are right. I have always maintained atheism is just another 'religion'. As much a matter of 'faith' in the largely unknown as any other.

However, to state that Nazism was a 'strongly religious movement' is an obvious and pretty desperate attempt to blame what is generally recognised as 'religion' for a particularly obnoxious atheistic creed!.

I did allow for the development to which you refer in my original post. I was reading about Alec Guinness recently, a Catholic convert, and one who struggled with his (bi-/homo-) sexuality all his life. He records buying and reading the wonderfully homoerotic novel The Swimming Pool Library by Alan Hollinghurst and his reaction to it - it was so disturbing that he decided that he should get rid of it. He didn't give it away anonymously to a charity shop, he didn't pass it on to a gay friend, he didn't put it in the bin. He burned it.

I am sure that even the most dedicated homosexualist would agree that Alison Balsom is a rather attractive young lady. But that makes no difference whatsoever to her trumpet playing.

Whilst both statements are no doubt true, your point in making them is unclear. If I listen to her playing on an audio-only recording, I would not see her so would not be conscious of whether or not she is of attractive appearance; if I hear her at a live performance, I would see her but would likewise be uninterested in whether or not she is of attractive appearance as my focus of interest would be what she'd be playing and how she played it. In any case, even if one accepts your premise without accepting at the same time your reason for submitting it, she's hardly the only "attractive" performing musician or even trumpet player. Futhermore, it is not necessary for anyone - even a trumpet player - to be female in order to be "attractive" to some people.
