I do think you should heed Ferret's advice & ignore Pee - he's a tedious prat with nothing of interest to say (on this topic, anyway). Ignore him & he'll stop. The discussion has degenerated to such an extent that I do feel that it's time the thread was put to bed.

How do you know I have nothing of interest to say on this topic when you- so you keep saying- have me on ignore?

And I'll stop when I'm good and ready, not because the mob tell me to.

Dear me, dear me! Have you not heard of the Sage at Gateshead? You have now. The appellation Sage of Chichester was not mine but I saw no reason in the present context not to run with it when 'twas cited by another member. Sussex - in which Chichester is located (unless there's been a recent boundary change of which I'm unaware) - like Intersex (and, for that matter, Middlesex), happens to end in "sex". I cannot help but wonder on occasion if your genuine ignorance spills over into pretence thereof. Please try not to overblow at the tenth so often, Mr Pee; it does neither you nor the rest of us any favours.

Now - might there be a scintilla of a chance of getting back to the thread topic?

              Thought not.

Quite a number of us here have gleaned more than an impression that you have nothing of interest to say on the topic, partly because of your self-admitted wilful ignorance of certain aspects of it and partly because, as I have already pointed out, the evidence of many of your posts in it demonstrate your desire merely to seize upon it as a platform for the airing of your personal prejudices and as a means to vilify and express contempt for much of the matter under discussion.

Truculence is thy watchword, evidently; so be it, I guess (and so what?). That said, I'm not telling you to stop (nor is "the mob", because there isn't one here) but, whilst it would be appreciated were you to take the trouble to make at least some genuine attempt to engage seriously with the topic and with those who have intelligent points to make about it, what you've persistently done instead demonstrates clearly that such an approach falls outside your agenda, hence those posts which quite reasonably bemoan the attitude as often expressed in your "contributions"...

My opinion is that you all [make that, 'most of you', anyway] paint people into a corner and are in a measure responsible yourselves for the way they behave.

If you were interested in the subject you would stick to discussing it. But far be it from me... I've given up on this place.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you for those insights, from one staring up at the stars.

Do you really believe that no one ever paints him/herself into one? Would you give no credence whatsoever to countenancing such a possibility?

To be fair, I think that most contributors to this thread have indeed done just that.

I would be very sorry to hear that, whatever the reason.

I am fully aware of the existence of the Sage in Gateshead, thank you. In fact I have performed there with the RAF, so I am in no need of your condescension.

And as for the Sussex "pun", again, I feared that was what you meant, but frankly the play on words is so risible that I really hoped you wouldn't stoop so low.

                        It seems I was mistaken.

You didn't get any; in fact, I would not have bothered to try to explain anything to you had you not indicated your apparent inability to grasp certain things. Never mind.

Your "hope" suggests that you may have feared that I might do just that but, leaving that aside, it wasn't meant to be a profound statement of anything, as I would have "hoped" was plainly obvious - "so I am in no need of your condescension"; it's not even as though it were a pure an unadulterated "pun" in the first place (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pun, in which you will find a reference to "ambiguities [that] can arise from the intentional use of homophonic, homographic, metonymic, or metaphorical language" but not to homosexual or metrosexual ditto - just thought I'd mention that in loving memory of that ever increasingly elusive thread topic....)

For one who wishes to get back on topic, you're remarkably good at not doing so.

It would presumably take very little effort, even on your part, to figure out that a post on my part to a post of yours in which the entire content is in direct reply to quotes from yours would be off-topic only if what's being replied to is likewise off-topic.

Now - back to the topic for those who wish to add something to the discussion (which I do not just now, thanks)...
