So in a sense you are right. I have always maintained atheism is just another 'religion'. As much a matter of 'faith' in the largely unknown as any other.

However, to state that Nazism was a 'strongly religious movement' is an obvious and pretty desperate attempt to blame what is generally recognised as 'religion' for a particularly obnoxious atheistic creed!.
Obnoxious, yes of course, and right from it's earliest beginnings. However, without the support of most of the Catholic Church authorities in Germany during the 1920s and early 30s it might not have survived. Naturally, the church learned its lessons and went on to support almost every dictator since. Power must always be preserved by the religious hierarchy to sustain mankind's greatest folly.

I'm glad you mentioned this, Mr Grew. I've always found you to be a most interesting and informative forum authority on various subjects, not least homo-sexualism.

Mr Hollinghurst and his book notwithstanding, it is, In my very humble opinion, most unlikely that a few of our more prominent forum members represent "main-stream" homo-sexualism any more than I represent "main-stream" hetero-sexualism.

I do trust this view is not in breach of any forum universal human right but I also do fear the worst!

I have no idea myself but cannot muster sufficient interest to be bothered to try to find out...

For "mind" substitute "record" in Sorabji's retort to an accusation of his having changed his mind about something, namely that the great thing about changing one's mind is having a mind to change in the first place...
