    Community and democracy

What is important is for authority to be delegated nearer and nearer to actual communities.

I wasn't just referring to music
DO you REALLY trust Dave and chums to protect us ?
The whole "authority to be delegated nearer and nearer to actual communities" is a bit dangerous don't you think ?
In some places would lead to Wicker Man style "justice" ........

I find the whole obsession with "sovereignty" a bit of a red herring anyway
"we" gave it away years ago to Shell, BP et al not much chance of "democracy" there is there ?

The sovereignty "issue" seems to be a paranoid insecurity that shows a lack of awareness of our real culture which is deeply rooted in Europe as well as the communities who have come here.
(Andy was obsessed with Kraftwerk at age 16, he used to get on the bus in the morning with a Dr Who scarf and a pile of lps ........)

You have so little faith in people and their communities?

if we don't trust ourselves with power, as Beefy suggests we need to, no wonder we are in big trouble.

        which we are.
And it is as sure as the universal consciousness created little green apples that politicians in big political organisations with huge budgets will not save us.
        They helped cause this chaos.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Moscow, Beijing and Washington can't have people managing their own affairs. Sadly, many people think the same way.

How about giving power back to communities, people and societies? Are we scared that they might come up with the 'wrong answers'?

THEY are scared that we might come up with the right answers.
(and a lot of people are scared that they will lose their nice place in the hierarchy).
            Fear is very powerful.

I think you are reading a bit too much into it Bryn.

If you want to make a point about what I have posted, reply directly to me instead of being patronising.

It's a free country Bryn, do as you please.

I just figured that it'd be better if you had the courage to directly challenge , rather than be a bit snide about it.

Not worth, or worthy, of the effort, thanks.

What do you mean by a "community" ?
"as far as you can push a pram" ?
                        or
                        a community of interest ?

I certainly want people more intelligent than me deciding on matters of law for example
and i'm not going to ask the postman (who is a great egg ) next time I need surgery

                        and

surely music is enormously more important than this supposed national sovereignty.

                          The perambulator test seems ok.

In certain parts of the country , the postman is a better, honest guide to healthcare than the state.

Everyone knows music is more important than the twin evils of nationalism and socialism. It's almost as important as association football.

I'm sure this discussion is fascinating some but it is way OT - let's have some theme discipline please

The pram test is a serious point about a community and you need to apply some discipline to your thinking if you consider listening to patients (they can be postmen too) is not a serious matter.
