I yesterday received an offensive emailed "Newsletter" from the local MP - one of the "very horrid getting on for nazi" party elected here in the Antipodes about six months ago. And the mystery is, whence and from whom did he obtain my email address? Because, the email service is quite new, and I have used it to communicate only with a) a few trusted friends, and b) two libraries (one local and one national) about library matters.

So the message seems to be: your library is not to be trusted.

So, under the new law, the government definitely won't be able to intercept your personal communications.
      Not unless it wants to.
      In which case, it can.
      Great.

On which, my favourite quote was the young man who commented about the possiblity of his mobile phone being tapped said " Well I hope they are getting all the texts from Dominos Pizza".
Er -perhaps not quite. It would appear that they can track where you are and log your emails, but they are not allowed to read the contents without a warrant.

At least, that's what they said, but to misquote Christine Keeler " well, they would, wouldn't they ?"
