The prospect of Mr Pee as Mr Barrett's twin brother quite simply doesn't bear thinking about (at least not from where I'm sitting); if ever there were a bicycle NOT made for two...

Well Sir Malcolm is a politician - do I need to say any more? His accountability occurs every five years whereas The Guardian's reputation is up[ for grabs on a daily basis.

How you can describe The Guardian as garbage when you don't read it is beyond me. Back to Little Lord Rees-Mogg in the Torygraph with you.

I see the German secret services now want to ask Snowden if he has any inside info about the Americans hacking Merkel's phone!

Yes, why don't you, since you're so knowledgeble and experienced in doing jut that? In any case, I see no problem with missing a point when there isn't one to begin with.

I find it hard to believe that any organisation would ever employ him again, since he has shown himself to be completely untrustworthy.

You're not accusing him of lying, but his statistics are questionable. Now who's sounding like a politician?

And I know it's a bit pointless, therefore, to mention this, and I agree 10,000 is a lot of emails. But nevertheless a tiny proportion of all those sent. Would you rather the Security Service ignored any suspicious communication, and therefore possibly missed a vital lead, just to satisfy the liberal conscience of a minority? I would rather they investigate. After all, that's what we pay them for.

Well it's your right to be clearly so deluded in the face of evidence to the contrary, innit

What vital lead, where? You miss the point yet again - what about the successful outcome of all this snooping? That's how you judge value for money - I don't pay them just to snoop.

Unless you have contacts within MI5, you or I will never hear much of their successes; that is the nature of the beast. But if and when they get it wrong, then the evidence of that failure will become horrifically obvious, as we saw on 7/7. And yes, you do pay them to snoop. That is what they do, and that is how they catch terrorists and prevent atrocities.

The fact that there has not been a major terrorist incident since 7/7 tells me that the Security Services provide value for money, recent arrests in London and Scotland backing up that view. You complacently prefer to believe that the threat has gone away and is just being hyped up by such devious and untrustworthy figures as Malcolm Rifkind and the DG of MI5. That's your perogative; dream on matey.

Great stuff, you have no evidence but supposition ("X hasn't happened so Y must be working") and meanwhile our freedoms and privacy have gone down the river.

Are the characters in Game of Thrones as gullible and biddable as you are?

I believe some of them are zombies, actually.

                                And neither have you.

And I have no concerns about my freedom or my privacy. 0.01% of emails. I have nothing to hide, so I have nothing to fear.
