Much of me agrees with what you say, except for the implication that we have to accept mistakes as inevitable. Do we? Should we not hold the authorities to account in a democratic society? Mistakes will happen, but we should never accept them with an "it's only to be expected..." We should always question mistakes and demand detailed (and truthful) explanations.

And that is not being anti-authority, left-wing, anarchistic or whatever.

To come back to the rapper with red hands ranting yesterday: he felt to me like one of the local very bad lads who wanted national exposure for his viewpoint. Not even a Muslim, probably. He was certainly full of hate, but so are a lot of people on the streets.

I think his Gadarene rush to martyrdom is what should interest us.

PM said to reverse decision about wearing uniform in public. It's a way of surrendering to these vile specimens of the human race.

no argument there Pab, but maybe they got it error free but wrong? time pressure must have been intense if they were of the view that a man with an explosive vest had just got on the tube ....

He was talking about 'the women in our land', so I got the impression that he wasn't local.

How much do we know about the background of these two?

I have heard that one of them is of Nigerian origin - is there any truth in that?

To answer my own question: the latest news confirms this - one of the men was was born in Britain of Nigerian parents, coming from 'a devout Christian family', a convert to Islam.

Bit of a show stopper that one. The sandal-wearers didn't know how to respond. Well done on answering your own question! :ok:

I think that we should indeed be very interested in the backgrounds of people who commit terrible crimes of violence.

Over a long period of time, both in Britain and elsewhere, far too many of them have had close connections with the British government and its agents.

"State trained killer " is a very interesting term. I'm not clear what it means , or to whom it refers.

Perhaps if our governments gave a lead on violence, arms, tolerance, then a cycle of violence might be broken.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Nothing wrong with sandals, Beefy, as long as nails are sorted.

Your thread. What should we do to make people safer, and to really feel safer in the UK? And what about those places abroad where we have or seek to have influence? What should we do about real safety there?

Your Lib-Lab-Con people might want influence outside of the UK, so spare me the royal 'we'

I say leave people alone around the world, concentrate on the home-front :ok:

not royal , but fair point. "They".

i think I agree with looking to our /their behaviour at home before we start meddling and selling arms abroad.

Wasn't thinking about 'our' behaviour at home, was thinking more about the nasty ne'er-do-wells we have domestically. 'We' are the good guys
