Please could people make their points without personal attacks upon one another?
Where is the put down that you are referring to?

And where's the personal attack that you think I made?

Most people don't want to even think about it, you're probably flogging a dead horse, because if they investigate then they see that they are to blame and no-one wants to shoulder any part of the blame.
Blame's not nice, blame gives you a guilty conscience, blame is not easy as a sort of collective thing.

Levi Bellfield who murdered Milly Dowler killed her and other young girls because 'he hated blondes' and thought they should all die. We cannot stop people being that evil if they are determined to be so ... we can only combat and hopefully defeat them. People like Bellfield and Brevick will and do crop up in any society. I mean nice little Norway, for goodness sake!

Yet what makes great teams, or winning teams is NOT competition, fundamentally, its cooperation with team mates.
I don't disagree ts, but how do we know that?

it is self evident. The pub teams i used to play in were highly competitive. But they were crap.

If it was down to competitiveness, a different team(pretty much) would win each year.
            The best teams cooperate better.
And in general, I think this is true in business also.

But, at the weekend Newcastle fans beating the carp out of police horses and Sunderland fans - Millwall fans beating the carp out of each other? Not a good example ...... it's tribal warfare. There is only a thin veneer of respectability over football.

I played for some pretty good teams and cooperation was never part of the deal!!

I agree with you about business. Shame that isn't more widely understood :ok:

I am talking about what happens on the pitch.
                  The example is good, IMO.

Football off the pitch may well be , or have an element of tribal warfare, but that is a different debate.

And business is similar, if less clear cut. I suspect that most businesses try to make more profit not by competing better , but by performing better, which means better cooperation within the organisation..
certainly in the businesses I have worked in we don't often discuss the competition, though I accept that this is not true everywhere, or all the time.

I would love to see footage of good football teams that didn't really cooperate with each other, Beef !

                    Especially if you were playing.
                    What position did you play?
                    and what is "pretty good?"

Indeed it is - I thought this debate was about what causes people to be terrorists! And here we are, discussing Paolo di Canio and big business! Love this MB, it just can not so keep on-topic!!

I suppose.....but the elevation of competitiveness into a virtue of the highest order is a REALLY big problem , and is reflected in bad behaviours in society.

You really think so? OK, I can see in bankers it is and whose bonus is bigger, but otherwise? No, I cannot see it, ok, maybe who has the latest trainers, but does it have anything to do with the title of this thread?

I do think that, in some respects, ts has a point with this, although whilst there's now competitive sewing on UK TV I think that we are still mercifully well away from programmes on competitive terrorism.

                                As you were.
