It's bad enough for people in full possession of their mental faculties, but for the mentally ill (and their relatives) it must be an absolute nightmare.
    Terrible and avoidable

I hope those in power have sleepless nights about this for many years to come
and do feel we have a responsibility to not let them forget these terrible things

So mr Clegg and your fellow travellers IT'S YOUR FAULT, YOU FACILITATED THIS and hopefully YOU will be judged for it

Poor man, what an awful state of affairs to visit on someone so defenceless and vulnerable. It's not just maltreated babies and elderly people in care homes who slip through the care net, this man might well have been a neighbour of yours or mine.

Has IDS commented on this man's tragic and unnecessary death? Or does he hide behind not commenting on individual cases?

Let's not forget Mark Wood come general election time and let's make a fuss any time ATOS gets anywhere near bidding for another Government contract (was it Andy Burnham who let them in in the first place?).

And his family appeared to have failed him too. A sad story. Hope he's somewhere at peace.

How did you come to that conclusion? I see no evidence of it in the article, quite the opposite in fact. They were in touch with him & had been helping him all his life..

Given that the family might read this thread if they put his name into Google search, I suggest that this needlessly unpleasant post should be removed.

A very sad story....with not enough facts about the family to make a negative assessment <somewhat like Atos in fact>....DWP cost cutting costs lives if assessments are made in a cursory revolving door manner....and the months it takes to rectify mistakes [if indeed they do get rectified] leads to the inarticulate being HURT....and in this case dead....

Indeed a very sad story. There's quite a lot of information in the article, but it's obviously quite complicated, that's why I said 'appeared' to have failed him.

Sadly, the serious eating disorder alone would have meant that this poor chap would be at mortal risk, whatever his material circumstances. I was thinking that although his family did not know that his benefits had been cut, they might've realised that he was starving to death, whatever the reason. His weight had gone down to 5.5 stone. Was no-one watching out for him?

A very vulnerable man: diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and compulsive obsessive disorder, an eating disorder and cognitive behavioural problems, the poor chap needed someone to watch out for him and it appears that didn't happen.

As I said, I hope he is at peace now.
