I wasn't meaning to be disrespectful. I was being factual.

Because, clearly, if someone genuinely doubts that the USA is, and has been for the past 60 odd years, generally friendly to Britain, then it would seem both justifiable and fair to assume that their grasp of history is, to say the least, weak.

Ah, the Oracle That Knows All speaks. Tis honoured we are to be sure.

What a shame you weren't there to advise in 1945. I'm sure they'd have been everso grateful.

It's possible to be disrespectful AND factual.

Indeed you were, in my opinion hence my post.

Kind of depends on the terms.
Britain, or Britain's ruling elites or Britains Banks, or Britains workers?
The interests of our many people are not all the same.

So we can't even be a bit sarcastic? We can't prick the bubbles of pomposity anymore?

But we can tell each other to go and rescue sheep?

True, TS. But in the geopolitical sense, which is what was at issue here the USA has been both friend and ally.

Regarding the UN war against the DPRK, Stalin cleared the way for it by his tactics on the Security Council.
Why the throw away venomous quip against Simon - which, in passing, is piss-poor? Thinking back: "Why don't you try sticking your head up your arse and coughing and farting at the same time?" Oh how we larfed.

Yes, Nagasaki (the second bomb on Japan), was questionable - to us, now - always will be - always the subject for easy quips like those from Muesli and your goodself - isn't life on the moral high ground easy, you don't even have to think - seventy years on - but to a GI seventy years ago -or a Jap seventy years ago - after the hell of the Pacific islands - I think not.

Perhaps it's just some sort of vague anti-American comment without much thought behind it, which is par for the course from some on here.

I don't expect you have much of a grasp of history, Alpie, but in case you're interested we'd just beaten the Axis powers in Europe and were trying to persuade the Japs to surrender before they cost any more Allied lives. Unfortunately, they kept refusing, and our people kept dying, so we had to use the only means we had to force them.

After that, our friend and its weapons helped us keep Stalin & Co at bay, until Gorbachev, Reagan and Thatcher between them managed to cool things down and get us towards a more sensible way of behaving.

But that said, please explain your point further: if I've misunderstood it, I apologise.

Indeed, yes. It was like being attacked by a wild, vicious, raging woodlouse...

Probably political correctness gone mad, but is there any reason you and An_Inspector_Calls can't type the word Japanese?
