So the nuclear weapons don't make you safer at all then do they ?
They just cost millions that would be better spent on other things as no one is going to use them anyway (we hope )
having them doesn't stop aggression by others as the situation in Israel proves

        as opposed to certainty......
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

          or indeed experience ...
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

. . . perhaps blind faith is what you're thinking of? Historically certainty and experience don't seem to have passed muster.

Only one country has ever used nuclear weapons against another, and that country is supposed to be our friend. :erm:

and if they did we would all be screwed
so better we spend our money and resources on useful things
rather than this , if all the brilliant minds who spend (or should it be waste ?)
their lives developing Trident actually used their talents to do something useful
then we might be getting somewhere ..........

Could you translate that into something understandable?

It sounds as though he was bullied at school by the history teacher.

Well, it certainly was our friend at the time and for many years after. Still in, in most ways. So I don't see what point you are trying to make. Perhaps it's just some sort of vague anti-American comment without much thought behind it, which is par for the course from some on here.

I don't expect you have much of a grasp of history, Alpie, but in case you're interested we'd just beaten the Axis powers in Europe and were trying to persuade the Japs to surrender before they cost any more Allied lives. Unfortunately, they kept refusing, and our people kept dying, so we had to use the only means we had to force them.

After that, our friend and its weapons helped us keep Stalin & Co at bay, until Gorbachev, Reagan and Thatcher between them managed to cool things down and get us towards a more sensible way of behaving.

But that said, please explain your point further: if I've misunderstood it, I apologise.

Go and help rescue some sheep.

There was no justification whatever for using 'Fat Boy'.

Regarding the UN war against the DPRK, Stalin cleared the way for it by his tactics on the Security Council.
