The identical sentences were surprising (given the different pleas) but probably had something to do with society's 'equality' obsession ...

It is very difficult to feel sorry for either of them. However, like most I suspect, I do feel very, very sorry for their unfortunate offspring.

Huhne had obvious contempt for the law as he was also caught using one of these wretched mobiles whilst driving. Pryce, consumed with self-destructive revenge, had no difficulty in telling lies herself in order to bring down her ex-husband.

On a more positive note, it might, just might, get amateur51's mind off a fallen senior cleric for a bit ... :winkeye:

I forgot to mention, however (since the "entertainment" aspect of this charade's been referred to), the well-known Q&A "And what do points mean?" - "Pryce's!"
      :ok:

I take AH's point about handing out draconian sentences, but I think 8 months is too lenient, given that the maximum sentence is 10 years (I think that's the length mentioned when Huhne was sentenced.

Apparently the DPP is applying for costs.

I hear he is trying to persuade her to take his months.

Chinese proverb quoted in today's The Times - I paraphrase - if you set out on revenge, first dig two graves.

Very good interview with Huhne by Gary Gibbon on C4 News on at the moment.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Interesting interview with J Aitken on BBC earlier (News 24, not the shorter one shown on the main news). I wonder how well CH will do "humble" in the cage and subsequently.

Vicky Pryce should have elected to go for the traditional form of revenge - cutting one arm off his suits and distributing his wine cellar to the neighbours.
As they both brought this on themselves shouldn't they be billed for the total legal/police costs involved?
As you point out later in the thread, it's more likely to be nine weeks, which is derisory, imho. That's an interesting comment about public schools, with more than a grain of truth in it, I imagine, though I've never been to prison. (I'd better add "so far", to save the resident humorists the trouble. :erm:)

With regard to revenge, there's always the apocryphal story of the Jaguar being sold for a tenner, but the story involving "ex away, still had a key to the flat, shag pile carpet, scattered mustard and cress seeds, plenty of water, turned up the central heating" has a certain devilish twist to it.

well it was a spectacle of domestic betrayal and revenge, more suited to an opera stage than a court ... the fuss about their imprisonment is out of all proportion to their crime ... really no more than an affront to the outer petticoats of justice ... nothing to twist her noble knickers .... meanwhile the thieves in the banks, finance houses and City Institutions continue in their prosperous ways .... unchecked unafraid and deep in further crimes against us all ....

I seriously think that neither of them should be interviewed or given any sort of attention for the next ten years. It's time we all grew up a bit, media included

Edit: Just watched the interview that Caliban referred to - he hasn't got it - he keeps seeing his first mistake as being the attempt to swap points. No mate, the first mistake was being a serial speeder. Importantly the repetition of the offences shows the contempt he has for that system, and once you've understood that, the rest follows in some ghastly logic of its own.

I was appalled by Huhne's virtual indulgence in that interview, frankly. The man is known for the self-manicured persona he presents to the world. What was CH4 doing interviewing him in the first place?
