I see that Gove is wriggling again to blame his predecessors because the UK is "falling behind global rivals in international tests taken by 15-year olds..."
Who on earth actually takes these tests? Those in Free Schools, perhaps? Most schools would run a mile to avoid yet more unproductive tests.

This page from the OECD website informs us that the 500,000 pupils tested are from randomly selected schools from approximately 65 'economies' (as some of the areas involved are not sovereign states as such e.g. Shanghai). There is more information on the Frequently Asked Questions page of the O.E.C.D. website.

I do not know how many schools chosen decline to take part.

So if China has 4 slots in the top 10, that bumps most of the rest of us by 3 places. Interesting.

What a fool Mr Gove makes himself appear, when he gets tied up in knots over Blackadder.

A row has erupted between Baldrick actor Sir Tony Robinson and Michael Gove over comments the education secretary made about Blackadder's portrayal of World War One.

One of his favourite tactics has been to refer to everything he disagrees with as myths. This is no exception.

Oh, I wish I'd known about the Gove petition.

Now the DFE is attacking OFSTED. I do like to see two incompetent organisations attempting to eliminate one another.

Unless anyone has any objection, I propose to merge the thread with the Gove one.
