Indeed it was and I couldn't find anything significant from more recent reports. But your point was that somehow the Lord President of the Council was to blame, being presumably able to call all parties together and make them agree. He can approve in Council, he can veto, that's all.

He can try and fail and then resign in a big fit of huff and put Cameron in a difficult position. No point in holding great office if you don't remember that.

Amid all the furore over Paul Dacre's most unpleasant attempts to get his own back on Ed Miliband via his dead father for backing Lord Leveson's report and wanting tighter press regulation, I missed this little gem ...

Is this important? Well apparently Matthew Ancona should know. And Ms Brooks was due up before the beak in September but this has been put off for a few weeks. I wonder why.

According to Sir John Major, the previous Labour government (Musta Broon et al) could decide to waive all this secrecy malarkey & publish all Blair's notes etc.

And back to the more general aspect of Leveson: I would describe my feeling as 'Schadenfreude' on reading George Clooney's comments on the Daily Mail:

'The paper, he continued, was "the worst kind of tabloid. One that makes up its facts to the detriment of its readers."'

This follows Jean-Claude Juncker's comments:

'Mr Juncker has said he is becoming increasingly frustrated at the way his candidacy for one of Europe's top jobs is being portrayed by the press in Britain.

He told his political supporters to prepare for the worst - slurs against his character and attempts to derail his campaign.'

Add to that all the other scare stories that appear regularly in the Mail and Express. This is what (we) supporters of 'freedom of the press' seemingly have to accept as 'free speech'.
