Thanks for your answer, TS. You're right about arms interests, though they are global rather than USA-based. Israel, of course, wants attention kept away from Palestine, which is why all the "will he, won't he" has been ramped up. Netanyahu has won all rounds so far.

One might also consider perhaps a comparison of the number of deaths on the two sides, or the number of illegal settlements constructed, or any number of other things. They have all contributed in some way to the mess.

but merely pointing out that (as you are no doubt very much aware) that if one seeks "balance" then maybe there is a huge difference between a highly militarised country in possession of nuclear weapons and it's neighbours
but what do I know , I'm just a lefty musician

was widely quoted as a top news story. I remember quite clearly that it was the TOP news story on R3 bulletins the day it was released. it was widely reported that "nearly " 20 percent of the UK population would reach age 100. This "report" actually emanates from the DWP , who blatantly have a pension reduction agenda, and needed "evidence " to justify it.
Now i don't have a crystal ball, but i don't know anybody who reached age 100. Apart from the Queen mother , I can't name anybody who reached age 100. (that composer chap?) Nobody. Even with todays healthcare (?!) not all that many get much past 90.
This report was a BLATANT distortion of the facts, placed by government sources to further scare an already scared population into accepting longer working lives and even worse pensions.
Oh, and the media were complicit in the lies about Iraq..and for Bush /Blair, read dave/obama.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

To save you the bother , Israel has , at the very, very minimum, 75 nukes.
What is the prize for non sequitur of the week? I think it should be a pair of secateurs.Non?I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Unusual for you and I to be on similar lines, ts, but may I suggest you try to dig a bit deeper and something more should appear!

I am so sorry if it doesn't meet your stringent criteria, RM.
This was a big lie , put out by the government , and put at the top of the schedules , as part of a process to reduce the living standards of ordinary people.
That is good enough for me.
We should get back to Iran , now that we have established that the government will mislead us, and that organisations like the BBC are careless at best about what they put out as "News"...You see it as a coincidental routine military exercise. I see it as a threat to attack yet another independent state, on flimsy evidence about weapons that they probably don't yet have.
There is no reason to suppose that we, or Israel won't attack at some point.
More death, more destruction, more american imposed "democracy" on the horizon. You support that if you want.
Almost Nobody I have met supports these wars.
Edit, because RM edited his last post comprehensively !
The population age thing isn't an hidden agenda, its an agenda dressed up as news. AS for the quality of the research and demographics....do you really believe that nearly 20% of people alive today, or even born today, will live to 100?
I don't. I have never met a single person who reached that age. It is, in my view, a lie.Last edited by teamsaint; 22-09-12, 08:59.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
