    Iran

So here we go again, another conflict engineered to benefit the powers that be in the west.

How long before the first missiles fly?

Is there anything that we can do to stop it happening?

teamsaint, I don't know if you're aware of the NDAA 2012, which was signed into law by Obama on New Year's Eve 2011. NDAA stands for 'National Defense Authorization Act'. It's a bill that's passed every year by the US Congress, and it was originally intended to be a Congress approved budget for the US military for the coming year. However, the NDAA is now being used to pass more and more draconian laws. The NDAA 2012 allowed for the indefinite detention of American citizens without trial (police state stuff). I did start a thread about it on this board. The NDAA 2013, which Congress are debating as I write this, will be passed into law at the end of this year. If interested, Google 'NDAA 2013', because amongst other things it green lights a war with Iran.

And yes, before anyone says it, I'm well aware that this week a federal judge has ruled against the NDAA 2012, section 1021 (which allows the indefinite detention of American citizens without trial). The amazing thing is that it's taken almost six months before a federal judge has overruled section 1021. This doesn't mean that NDAA 2012 section 1021 is illegal: the US Government has 60 days to appeal against the ruling.

Anyhows, I'm not going to waste much more breath on this, because most people aren't interested in the fact that America is rapidly becoming a police state. Just like they are not interested in what's happening at Fukushima.

"becoming"? I can't recall thinking it was anything other, and its penal system is hardly better than the Chinese (including the effective use of slave labour). As to Fukushima, don't confuse disdain for paranoid tub-thumping with lack of concern.

I would not wish to sit back and allow this dangerous rogue state to develop nuclear weapons. Ahmedinijad has repeatedly called for the state of Israel to be "wiped from the map", and do you really think he would stop there if he had the technology?

Sometimes tough choices have to be made. Iran could cease its posturing and threatening behaviour and then there would be no need for this discussion. But as usual, to some, the fault is all in the West.

I like a laugh as much as the next man, Peester, so well done.
Actually, what has happened is that the media in Europe and the US keeps telling us that is what Armedinijad says.

The sabre rattling is almost all from the US . Do you know how many nukes Israel has ?
Seriously, the danger here is NOT Iran, which might, if its programmes aren't destroyed by the west and its agents, have the ability to build a bomb sometime in the next few years. It probably won't be able to deliver it successfully...and if it did, Iran would be obliterated in retaliation.
We should look to where the real de stabilisation is happening.

Pity the politicians don't try to sort out the impending economic meltdown, instead of this oil hungry distraction.
Don't listen to what they say, watch what they do.

EDIT: I have no desire to see Iran with nukes either.

                      Thanks teamsaint :ok:

As I understand it Mr Pee, the issue about Iran's saying that it wishes to destroy Israel is akin to Khruschev's apparently saying to the USA "We will bury you". This was interpreted as K meaning that USSR would attack the USA and win. In fact he meant that Communism would prevail over Capitalism, a rather different interpretation.

I agree with you that the situation in the Middle East is perilous, but Iran is by no means the sole agressor in the region.

And Milton Babbitt asked "who cares if you listen"; pas vive la difference mais plus c'est la même chose, I fear. His name transliterates as Ahmadinejad, incidentally.

To some, perhaps - and maybe Israel could cease its posturing and US cease its rather more than mere posturing and then, as you rightly observe, "there would be no need for this discussion" (at least for the time being).

                              ?

                              (OT I know ) ..........

The elephant in the room of all of this is Israel's possession (allegedly) of nuclear weapons
if people started acting ethically (and that doesn't just mean "The West") then we might get somewhere
                              but
if we use a the logic that "because others do it, it's ok for us to join in, even if we disagree" then we will be forever stuffed ...... using the same logic we should start selling hard drugs to children as "we don't want the bad people to get hold of them".............
