Because the majority didn't perceive themselves to be poorly off? Those who did (feel so) didn't vote for them, but there weren't as many of them??
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Its a sad indictment of one of the wealthiest countries in the world that we aren't able to look after the most vulnerable whether they be our own parents or children drowning in the Mediterranean :-(

Probably partly because people have an indoctrinated memory that says that these people are entitled to be in charge.

        And Labour didn't demur.

I have never voted for a candidate who became an MP, and I have voted in every election in which I was entitled or able to vote. I am sure I am not alone.

Perhaps it's the kind of constituency you've always lived in? :-) I voted for my (ex-)MP (who was able to boast he was the only minister in the government who'd been on free school dinners. Didn't cut any ice this time, though).

Even some of the Tory MPs admitted that this wasn't really true. Without the greedy (definitely not Labour)bankers' crash, the likelihood was that Labour would have been perceived as having managed the economy well. However, Gordon Brown did make some questionable judgements: selling some of the gold, and cutting VAT when he did.

Not only that, he told the markets that that was what he was going to do and so ensured a dramatic fall in the price of gold just before he did it. And we trusted him to run the economy !!

You can't be doing it right. Should've got the hang of it by now.

I think next time I'll go to live in Scotland.

Yeah, who needs sun, vegetables, fruit, dental health anyway?

I like to see blue sea and sky around the coast of the county - much less do I like the blue tide that has swept inland.
Clearly St Ives was the last resort.

It really isn't rocket science. The fact that all the political parties depend on this system for their perpetuation, however, means that they'll never put these facts to the electorate.

It has been very sunny in the very northern parts of Scotland lately, and then there's the whisky - which I believe you enjoy. Vegetables aren't a problem as far as I can see, though one has to take care not to get run down by dogs driving tractors.
