The tax-payer making up the difference.

This man has a Nobel prize for economics
but if he lived here, his vote would be worth the same as that of "Joey Essex" (whoever he is?)

I think the manifesto has turned into an albatross round their necks - several reports that some of the more outré ideas were in so they could be jettisoned as a part of a new coalition . The abolition of the HRA will run into very serious difficulties both as the current draft of their British Bill of Rights is hopeless and as it will lead to more cases going to Europe for the ECHR to rule on rather than fewer. The housing association RTB plan is likely to run into big legal challenges too and housing associations are spitting feathers about it and are likely to point out that they will stop all new building .

As for Europe - now watch the fun begin - many of the swivel eyed brigade on the back benches now make Teresa Gorman look like Rosa Luxembourg .

There's a lot of received wisdom banded about about what "democratic" means
What good local work - they were an absolute disaster in Sheffield and historically a complete disgrace in Tower Hamlets where they were found to be deliberately breaking homelessness legislation for political advantage .

Those of us who enjoy seeing and hearing musicians from other part of the EU need to be very worried indeed about some of the idea around free movement of workers in Europe that the loons are suggesting.

I was trying to be nice (for once)
they always tried to sell themselves as good "on the ground"

:stands corrected and finds bile wasn't misplaced:

Bullshit. What do you think happened before we had the perfidious EU fascist state?

DO we really have to go through this again?

A typical scenario for freelance orchestral musicians in the UK

1: It's Monday, you get up, do some practice
2: You get a text message from an orchestra in Germany, the bass trumpet player crashed his bike and can't do the gig on Wednesday are you free?
3: You are, you go online and book a flight and get out the score of the Rite of Spring to practice
4: Next morning you go to the airport and fly to Germany to do the gig

Things happen THAT fast all the time in music

I frequently go to work with orchestras and other ensembles where the players are criss crossing the rest of the EU every week.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I've been criss-crossing Europe from the time you were in short trousers (my first trip to Italy was in 1962). All you need is a bloody passport.

A friend in Yugoslavia in 1981, said he might come to London, I said come. He arrived 3 days later at my house.

Things happened THAT fast in the real world.
